Heh.  I mentioned that I'm on version 2 of the bridge now:  The new
columns are white and black technic beams; they look *really* flimsy,
and I'm going to put heavier looking towers beside them to make people
happier.

Glad you didn't design any bridges *I* have to cross. :-) I wasn't too
surprised to hear the deck flexes. it needs to be a truss, or at least a
much deeper girder. No way is 4 bricks of depth enough for a 20-30 inch
span.

*nod*

I will make the observation that 7 segment of Lego track alone are
sufficient (barely) to support a lightly loaded train. :)

Before you get too worried, version 2 of the bridge is now in use, and
it's a big fat truss.  Basically, 20 1x12 beams sandwiched into Xes
between upper and lower beams made out of long strings of larger beams.
The track deck is then set on cross-members lying on top of this truss.
The lift components are built right into the ends of the girder boxes.

I don't know if *you* could cross it, but it happily supports 20 lbs
static load at the centre of the span.  It flexes a tiny bit.

The woman whose digital camera I normally borrow is in Trinidad this
week (sigh), so the pics will have to wait.
