Unfortunately we can't do what many model railroaders to  improve the
electrical performance of their track... Soldering the rails would melt the
plastic (not to mention being just as bad as glue...).

Not true.  You -can- solder to the lego track.  I know.  I have about 10 pieces
that have various combinations of wires leading off them, plus having rebuilt
points to a all curve/straight pattern.

You need a good temp. controlled soldering iron, 60/40 solder and _flux_.  You
have to have the flux to get the solder to tin to the rails, at least I find I
must have it to do the job quickly without melting anything.

(I'm using a Antax 17W iron, and some 0.015" (60/40) solder, with liquid rosin
flux)

As to it being non lego, well, the lego electrics are overpriced for what they
are (the wires and so on), and since I want to -run- trains, this is the best
way that I can manage to do so.
