My 12 year old son presented me with this loco for Christmas (which he secretly built)-- I was, to say the least, quite impressed with it! Here is how he describes it: It is an 8 wide engine with a 5 wide boiler, with the six drivers powered by a 9 (...) (22 years ago, 6-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains)

I'm really quite impressed with this. Now, if it were a 0-8-0, it would probably look more like a "real" loco than my Caribou that is downstairs! Please congratulate your son for the good work. (Caribou is a 0-8-0 3.5" gauge live steam engine-I joke (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains)

Wow, what a wonderful work! You must be a proud ol'man to have a son with that much talent. That's as good if not better than many AFOL train MOCs. BTW: How come none of us ever built a chain driven train before, or used a combo driver wheels (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains)

(...) No, sleepers are European for ties. Flangless drivers are called "blind" drivers (since they can't "see" where they are going and depend on other drivers to lead them aright), at least in US practice. (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains)

Blind Drivers, that it. I couldn't recall the name for that. Thanks Lar! I sorta figured that something this had to be done for the longer model RR engines (O, HO, N...) but I was also surprised to find that blind drivers where used for real steam (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains)
