Hi to all the train guys. I have been thinking about the bridge I may or may
not build, and I am wondering how much clearance is needed at the sides of
the track. If I put 1 plate and 1 brick on top of the very edge of the
railway ties, is that going to interfere with the train passing over it?

rtlToronto of course can and should set whatever standards they like but to
this particular point (close to the track), I have always assumed that I had
to clear the track power connectors on a straightaway, and no more.

I am going to throw a "me too" in here. The power connector bricks on a
straight away is my maximum straight track rail side height clearance setting.
Actually, my well cars will crash into the power connectors if the power
connectors are to close to a curve. If the power connectors are too close to a
curve there isn't enough time for the car to center itself over the track. On
curves my maximum rail side height clearance setting is much lower.
On a curve I cannot have anything higher than the actual rail... I think, but
I can double check when I get home. Three of my cars are so long that they
actually throw the points as they go through. As the car goes from the curve
side of the switch track to the straight side (or visa versa) the overhanging
car pushes the switch and changes the setting from the turn out to the main
line. Luckily I was going from the turn out to the mainline when I discovered this.
Larry's also right, my clearance problems are my clearance problems, and you
should do whatever you want, but the power connector height standard is not a
bad standard to adopt.
