Well if good *to scale* models of prototypes are what you want this is a site I
use all the time (I also head to their factory store as well as they are the
next town over).  They have some incredible G Scale models.

For example here is a great Conrail GP40

Um, this is actually an SD, not a GP. It says it is and you can tell it's an
SD since it has 6 axles. :-)

If LEGO wasn't my game and I had a couple hundred extra bucks I would plop it
down on one of these bad boys.  Granted all that gets me is the engine but >they
are sweet models.  Again I hadn't thought of giving this address because it
isn't pictures of real engines.  It is a referance that I use often however.

They look nice but I am not totally convinced that using G models as your
prototype is prudent, G has some distortion, no matter what you do, because
of the gauge/scale issues with it. You'll be close but if you use a
finescale model for a reference (such as an O or HO model) you'll be just a
little bit closer.

But for our purposes it may not be that important. Use what works!

(...) Oh, Eric, you mean *14 wide*....>;^D (...) Lar is correct. There isn't even a particular "G" scale, although there is an effort to codify under the term "Large Scale" (LS). G scale can refer to 1:22.5 (LGB), 1:25, or 1:29 (USA). The correct (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Hmmmmm..... Are you trying to say that Lego is to_scale? So what scale is Lego exactly? What gauge? And do the scale and gauge match? Not all "G" scale is distorted. There are some incredibly talented people hand laying their own track and (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.trains)
