  Custom track on sale again!

Hey all, I have been getting a few emails asking if i'm still making custom track so I just wanted to share a big Yes I am!! photos of my work - (URL) Please note: All prices are for labor only. I no longer have access to 9v track for modification. (...) (14 years ago, 30-Jan-11, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: candy and ***** size: was Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) --snip-- (...) I'd just like to highlight that the cool ideas were Dave Eaton's, not mine. Wrong post quoted ;) Tim (14 years ago, 29-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: candy and ***** size: was Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) We've actually had surprisingly little trouble. We do have a loose rope barrier around the layout, and we always have a group member at the "grabbing" spots. In fact, we usually have to invite the kids to grab candy. Some are fairly picky (...) (14 years ago, 27-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) sorry, easier access: (URL) (14 years ago, 27-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) thanks very much for the follow-up. Nice loco. though others may, I have no problem with clones. (URL) red facade on the red building are mega bloks. It is to good a color to pass up IMO. Jonathan (14 years ago, 27-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Sounds like a job for the (URL) BrickModder>! (URL) JOHN (14 years ago, 26-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Now don't be silly. One just has to MOD the new containers down to classic 4 wide standard Lego shipping containers. Just like one has to MOD the Maersk container ship's containers up to 4 wide standard to fit in a classic town/train harbor (...) (14 years ago, 26-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Well if the set is like the Emerald Night and does not come with the track and motor parts, I could see this being in a similar price range. After all the flat beds and yard-tractor (truck) aren't significantly more than the tender and dinning (...) (14 years ago, 26-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: candy and ***** size: was Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) I can build that train in 8 studs. Because 8 is better. (URL) Cale (14 years ago, 26-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: candy and ***** size: was Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) I'm suddenly reminded of "Name That Tune". Except in LEGO studs: "I can build that train in 6 studs!" "I can build it in 4 studs!" "Ok, build that train!" DaveE (14 years ago, 26-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Well, some of us are big enough-- at least, that's what she said! (...) lol, it's too bad that I'm not further along with my 14 wides, because when I get rolling, I'll be ramping up the rhetoric BIG time! JOHN (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

candy and ***** size: was Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) That was pretty close to what I thought when I read the post. Extra fun for all! Tim PS. Although a real man with no need for compensation would do it in 6w. (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) You're a braver man than I. As I think about it, though, that's a totally cool idea! Imagine if you could get it to be some sort of automated hopper delivery system... Put a trigger on the side of the train that opens up the hopper as it goes (...) (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Well, there *is* a very practical reason to run some stuff 8 wide. An 8 wide hopper is big enough that you can put last year's cheap Halloween candy in it, and let kids carefully grab some from the train. Either let them get it from the slowly (...)   Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) We all want to be bigger, John. Tim PS. Been ages since we had a good size war here :) (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Bingo! That's exactly what I like! Or want to, anyway:-) JOHN (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) That's one way of dealing with it if you like to run giant trains. Alternatively you can come up with a system of (URL) 5 wide containers> to fit correct 6 wide rolling stock. Tim (14 years ago, 25-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Ararat 1972

(...) Absolutely awesome layout. Very inspiring. Cale (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) John is right about the dimensions of containers compared to train rolling stock. We at the (URL) PennLUG Institute for LEGO Intermodal Studies> have confirmed this and come up with our (URL) own standard> of 6 and 7 wide containers to fit our (...)   Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Containers are about 8' wide. A loco is generally about 10' wide. That's a ratio of 4:5. The ratio of 6 wide to 8 wide is 3:4, but that is certainly more plausible than 1:1 (6 wide to 6 wide). And I mention again for emphasis: the cars and (...) (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Locomotives are not 33% wider than containers. I'm pretty sure anyway. If the locomotive is 6 wide plus some overhangs here and there, handrails, etc, and the container is 6 EXACTLY, that seems to me like enough of a difference. Container well (...) (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Well, that's precisely my point. I was actually directing my comment towards TLG. You really can't have locomotives being the same width as a container, or a bus or a police car, for that matter! But I do not pretend to understand their loco (...) (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) I wonder if the price will be jacked up higher than typical train sets? Comparing to the container ship price increase this year, I might expect it. None-the-less, I really like this set and would consider multiples depending on price as well. (...) (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) I see no reason to do that, looks like LEGO didn't in that set design... :) (14 years ago, 24-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) And if the new standard for containers is 6 wide, maybe it's time to revise the width of a train to 8 wide! (URL) JOHN (14 years ago, 23-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Maybe it's time to revise the containers that clubs use to swap to fit what seems the new standard... (14 years ago, 23-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: 10 Wide Thomas

(...) lol "Super Thomas" (URL) I am impressed with the PF motor, although the initial investment was rather steep. Ross and I have been talking about using the PF train motor in conjunction with the 9 volt motor, getting its power from the tracks (...)   Re: 10 Wide Thomas

(...) Absolutely awesome work John. I love the use of the Duplo Thomas nose, it fits in perfectly. Annie and Claribel look sweet. The power functions bit makes me very happy. It looks like he runs well in the vid. I'm tempted to build a version for (...) (14 years ago, 23-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.trains.org.tcltc, FTX)

  10 Wide Thomas

Well, this MOC has been a WIP for years, and now I have finally finished it (with, of course, help from my consultant, chief designer, and son, Ross:-) (URL) (Click (URL) HERE> for more pics after moderation) When Ben Fleskes starting producing his (...)   Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

(...) Whoa! That is awesome. That engine is epic, the Maersk color scheme rocks on a train. Even the flatbed cars look great, and I normally don't care for flatbeds. This will look good along my BNSF and... ahem... Enlighten brand Union Pacific. I (...) (14 years ago, 23-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

Re: 10219 Maersk Container train set

  Re: Ararat 1972

(...) I remember that one well. Excellent :) (...) This is true. But making this took my entire luggage allowance so any expansion would involve mailing stuff etc. Doable but a pain. I have actually considered that style of project for my own, very (...) (14 years ago, 22-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Ararat 1972

(...) Thanks, I didn't get any good shots of the hotel but let's say it was inspired (ahem copied) by your work. I'll fix it up and take some pics sometime. I've also got a three piece MOC that I think you'll dig. Tim (14 years ago, 22-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Ararat 1972

(...) This is excellent. I love the fence and also the angles of everything - the roads and tracks. Looks very realistic. Look forward to the next one. Jonathan (14 years ago, 21-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Ararat 1972

Re: Ever Had Your Train Layout TP'd? lol

(...) I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but Paul essentially confessed AND ratted you out on my FB page just today! LOL Hope that you didn't throw out a shoulder, Benn! :-P JOHN (14 years ago, 21-Jan-11, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.trains.org, lugnet.trains.org.tcltc, FTX)

  Re: Ararat 1972
