(...) Another 'wheel' option - if you're ok with cutting <gasp> Lego pieces - is to use the big grey hubs from the Model Team 5571 or 5563 trucks. I did this for my Hiawatha model (pictures to come, someday!) and they look sweet. And, you can (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

I am trying to use the old large wheels from sets 194, (URL) , 390-2, (URL) , 96 (URL) , articulating 38 wheels around a Lego track has been… interesting, I (...)   Re: Switching from 4,5V to 9V

(...) Well, actually, if you battery or RCX power your 9V motor, you can run it on 4.5V track... If I was converting from 4.5V to 9V, I would just abandon all the 4.5V track, and go all 9V track. The 4.5V motors should run just fine on the 9V track (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Switching from 4,5V to 9V

(...) I have built 2. Take a piece of straight 9v track, and cut it in 1/2. Take 2 rails from the 4.5V track, and cut them in 2. (I use a dremel (the metal on the 9v track) and a minature Hacksaw (the plastic) to do my cutting). Take 1 sleeper, a (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Massive 4-8-8-4 Steam locomotive pics posted

(...) Yeah, the middle technic pulleys are offset to the track around corners, but all sit dead center in straight-aways. I originally had rubber Technic belts from axel to axel to keep all of the wheels in motion, but it caused too much friction (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Switching from 4,5V to 9V

Hi there, is there any brick - or has anyone "build" one - which allows to connect 4,5V tracks to 9V tracks? (I first got a shock when I saw the 9V tracks...) Even so: Has anyone experience in tuning up 4,5V tracks to allow 9V trains to go on it - (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Dan, that's quite the amazing beast. Nice job! I must say though, I burst out laughing when I came to the pic of it going round a curve with the body swinging waaay over to one side. Looks pretty weird! Kevin (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Sick, twisted (1) and strangely attractive. Very nice. Of course it's all cheating, really, since none of your middle technic pulley wheels actually are even close to being on the rails, but who cares? It looks good. What an exceedingly clever (...)   Massive 4-8-8-4 Steam locomotive pics posted

As a direct result of Larry Pieniazek's off the cuff "couldn't be done" remark of a few days ago, I posted pictures of my massive steam locomotive with 4-8-8- 4 wheel configuration that I have just built over the weekend. At 68 studs long (not (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: broken motor

(...) Not that I can see... (...) Cool. You might still contact Steve and see what he would trade you for the broken motor. I wouldn't stop playing with the set, after all that's what LEGO is for. I would just set about securing another spare or two (...) (25 years ago, 13-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Looking for track

(...) OK, As a general information post: I have 2 spare 4555's on order. Lego Canada still has them at $65 cdn each now (on sale). If anyone wants one at cost plus or trade, LMK. James Powell (25 years ago, 13-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) I think also that TLC should make new town windows. Between 1957-77, TLC made 9 different window types. Today we have the 2x2, the 4x3 and a few large 4x5, 4x6 etc windows, but not the variety of the classic era. I woundn't mind if they (...)   Station For 4559 (& minor fotw)

My daughter's school project this term is transport, so we've been playing with our 9v trains quite a bit. At the weekend we got around to thinking about building a station. The main trains we are using right now are 2 4559s we have (4558 in the (...) (25 years ago, 13-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.general)
