First of all, Legomaster, let me just say that with your amazing creations
such as the GG Mech...I don't see how anybody creating those can AVOID hand
pains ;)

I'm a pianist (not professional) so I try to take care of my fingers
too...but what really gets me is my wrists (since I also do a bit of CS
work).  I find that while your fingers can take a beating and heal from cuts
and bruises, putting pressure on your wrists repeatedly is much harder to
relieve.  My advice is somewhat trite but take a break! :)  Even for a
minute per hour, let your hand loose, rotate your wrists around...flop your
hand up and down.  This won't relieve much finger abrasion but will help
prevent carpal tunnel like pain.

Also, I always keep a spare axle around for poking out pins and other axles.
You probably do that already though.  Brick separators are nice but I think
in the end, nothing beats the ol' hands...they're fast, accurate, and that's
why we'll abuse them time after time ;)

Good luck with your hands and keep up the awesome work! (I know that's some
what paradoxical).

I gotta ask, who else deals with the hand and finger stress from long
building projects. I know it's a common ailment that we all deal with. I
mean who hasn't cut, scratched or abraised themselves while building Lego.

Man, I was building all day Sunday, and my fingers are all bruised and, • well
yiesh my skin, forget it~ (TMI)

I build most everyday for a few hours if I can help it.
Days at a time when I'm focused. So the wear and tear factor on my digits • is
nothing new. But pulling and pushing on technic all day and night, for
weeks, years!

My hands need a Spa!

How do you guys deal with it? I fear using lotion, or it would soften up • my
paws, and you know we need strong hands to pry apart plates. I use tools,
what kinds do you folks use? I feel like if I were Lou Ferigno from the TV
show "The Increadile Hulk". Like I have to use one of those big ol #1
pencils from 1st grade or I would break em!

Lego people have strong hands! I could skwish a raw potato in my hand! • LOL!

Tell ya what, I ain't stick'n together any more technic pegs and beams
UNLESS THEY'RE GONNA STAY LIKE THAT!!! use axles when possible.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, Lego has gotta be tough, it makes your creations
strong.

(...) Oh, hey, that's nice of you to say. I certainly pushed the limits when I was builing the Gomgile. My pulpy stumps grew back. It's a right of passage. (...) Yes, the wrists! Hey you play Piano! I took lessons when I was younger! Good advice (...) (22 years ago, 30-Jul-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)
