(...) You might also try putting some sort of load on the bricks in the oven. Lego parts stored in an attic would most likely be stored tubs or boxes in which case the bricks on the bottom would be compressed by the bricks above. Bricks might get (...) (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: More Heat Testing

(...) For a better test, I'd suggest turning your stove on as low as it will go (probably around 100F or so, and leave a handful of bricks in there for several hours, at least.   More Heat Testing

OK, so I bought an oven thermometer today which is more accurate than my guessing with the knobs on my stove/oven. Using the oven, I warmed up a few 2x4 blue bricks (one single and a pair joined by 8 studs). I warmed them to between 140-150F (the (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

(...) Just one question (haven't looked at your webpage yet), just how HOT does your attic get? Heat is the ENEMY of your LEGO, that little temperature warning in conjunction with washing also should apply dry. FYI, Mike All other themes are just (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: LEGO bake test

(...) Train windows!?! Sacrilege! I think I might leave some "test bricks" in various configurations in my attic this summer, along with a thermometer that has memory for a max reading. Now, I *know* you shouldn't leave it in your car. The local (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: LEGO bake test

(...) Is is possible to melt the plastic without burning it? It would be fun to do some experiments with those sand-molding kits and say some train windows :) KL (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

  LEGO bake test

Let me follow up on my earlier pos about LEGO baking/heat testing. In a second, completely un-scientific test, I set my oven at roughly 150 Fahrenheit (I did not have a baking thermometer to measure accurately). I put a few yellow 2x4 bricks within (...)   Re: Storing My LEGO

(...) My LEGO from the seventies spent three summers in an attic in Lubbock TX, where I know it got to at least 120 degrees and when I finally retrieved it, it was fine. ABS has a very high melting temp, you need to get much higher than Texas heat (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Storing My LEGO

(...) My LEGO was kept in the attic for 3 years, with a black slate roof that really absorbed heat. I've yet to find any problems with any of the bricks. The only thing I found that might be cause for concern was some of the airplanes that were (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.storage)

(...) I live in Auburn, AL -- quite a ways from Huntsville (4-5 hour drive, maybe?). back to the subject of heat: I did a VERY INFORMAL test of 'baking' a LEGO piece for about 15 minutes in my oven at about 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Indeed, I bought 4 of the TravelLogic 3750 boxes to help store my collection. I use 4 Plano 3730's for the big stuff (like tires), 8 Plano 3700's for most of the stuff, and now have 4 TravelLogic 3750's that I mostly use for the rarer stuff that I (...)
