Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
Hi all, Well, as promised I've finally got around to finishing and photographing my latest moc. It's a small freighter used primarily on the Earth/Moon run. (URL) I deliberately built this incorporating several .space no-no's: It's boxy. I tried to (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.announce.moc, FTX) !

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Tony Hafner
(...) In all seriousness, from the side this reminds me of a cartoon dog with legs waaay to small. But it's a righteously gnarly cartoon dog with legs waaay to small! Beautiful detailing and neat play features. Does the side ramp have hinges at its (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Hehe. Yeah I can see that. Sort of Courage the Cowardly Dog-like (...) Yeah it hinges, and has an extra plate inside that stops it from sliding out all the way. It's a nice feature. I think I got the idea from Ryan. I've certainly seen it done (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Yeah. There's a couple I think - I don't have it in front of me right now (I'm at work). I got most of my bricks in bulk second hand lots, so I never know which part comes from which set. I like that brick. It's got a nice industrialness about (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Wayne McCaul
Holy cow, this is awesome. It's like a superneat playset, complete with crew, cargo, and loading truck! Visit exotic worlds! Trade cargo! The front end sort of reminds me of the Omega destroyers in Babylon 5. Nice smooth sides that sandwich the (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Thanks. I had the idea, that I still might do, of making a spacified black Trans Am and turning it into a sci-fi version of Smokey and the Bandit. (...) I'm not a frequent viewer of that show, so I'm not familiar with that ship. Do you have a (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Paul Baulch
(...) Wow. Your modelling here is really top-notch. Wonderful attention to detail, like the way you put the windows on their sides to make them less tall, and the way you lined the passage walls with stuff. I love it! (...) It's definitely not boxy (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Thanks. I'm kinda dissapointed that I could get a better shot of the corridors, but that would have meant a certain amount of dismantling - something I didn't relish doing. (...) This model was in part inspired by recent mumbling about (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Ley Ward
(...) Well, it is somewhat Bisonesque as you indicate, but it does stand on its own...its own spindly legs. It has a pleasant collision of Mack truck, earthmover, architect's-house-on-stilts, Hercules (the plane) and sheer playability. The contrast (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Heh. I like the way your mind works. It wasn't it my mind at the time, but I can see all those influences there now. (...) Thanks. (...) It did (URL) occur to me>, but they're far to big to fit through the doors. The 6x4 pallets fit nicely. (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Joseph Kazmo
(...) Allister, this is simply a jaw dropping creation.. When I clicked that link, I discovered that I a big fan of that gallery "almac" but never thought it was you all this time.. I thought that mysterious "almac" is a Japanese LEGO enthusiast ;-) (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Heh. It would appear that we're mutual secret admirers. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy. :D (...) I can think of no higher compliment. I only wish I could build as well as those Japanese guys. I keep trying though. (...) Having a five year old (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Leonard Hoffman
(...) Yes, but a creative boxy. Boxyiness isn't a no-no, but rather it is difficult to get right. A good builder can do it, but most can't. I for one, can't. But this shuttle is an excellent example of how it can be done right! (...) Black ain't so (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) Thanks. This was largely what I was trying to prove to myself with this model. (...) O I don't know. The photography on your Rastarfarian bus is top notch imo. (...) I'm with you 100% there Lenny. I do like to see new ways to use both old and (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Leonard Hoffman
(...) Oh yeah. Well, let me take this foot out of my mouth. But all that is due to my brand new Canon Powershot A70 digital Camera which I *LOVE*. My old camera was a bit testy in how it reacted to extremes (white & black), but the new one acts (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Gil Shaw
(...) Little behind in my posting, but wanted to start it off with this. I saw it a while back and really enjoyed it. Getting back to it now, I enjoy it even more. Boxy but it works goes for Volvos and this....in fact, I think it works because it's (...) (20 years ago, 12-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Allister McLaren
(...) "Volvo. It's boxy, but it's good." (...) I seem to either make fragile models for myself, or small simple toys for the boys to play with. This one managed to get the combination of the two working, which pleases me, although I doubt it'll (...) (20 years ago, 16-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Short Haul Space Freighter —Chris Giddens
Allister! I can't believe I missed this! Incredibly cool! The schmoove black panels with the exposed greeblies... man that's just HAPPY! Great details and superb functionality.
