     The orb thing is kind of creepy..."willing or not" sent shivers up my
spine.  But it's a really cool idea, and it sounds as if you've put a LOT of
thought into developing your Athas.
     A long time ago, in a state far, far away, I worked on my own world
too, though mostly from a graphical standpoint.  It was a big flat chunk of
rock floating out in space, with oceans and waterfalls that ran of the sides
into nothingness, and the map was very Tolkeinian.  I started to develop a
kingdom in that world, my 'base' from which all my storytelling was to take
place, in which primitive tech and magic worked together (you ever see the
Playstation game P.O.D.?  Looked like that in my mind).
     Thanks for getting me thinking of all that again with your Athas.  It's
some pretty cool stuff, and I'm going to dig a little deeper.
