Thats a cool little ship. The trans blue looks pretty good with the red and
dk gray. The links as feathers is a good idea. I'm jealous though cuz I
don't have any links at all. ;-) I also dig the flower pots. Just never
NEVER stick a 2x2 cone in them. Trust me.
Regarding the brightness of the pictures, (Tony also mentioned this) maybe I
can help a bit.
The following is more or less copied from an email I sent to Todd Trotter on
the subject:

Ok I uploaded 2 pictures. This is exactly how everything looked when I took
the pictures of my alphabet ships. The only difference is this shot is
during the day with some light coming through the window. I took the
pictures of the ships at 1 in the morning:

Not to fancy eh? :-) I didn't even move the bricks on the table out of the
way. Post photoshop work was minimal. Just an Auto Levels and then some
further level adjustment to make the background whiter. I took the pics at
1600 and reduced them to 640. Saved for web at about 70k each.
Heres a pic of my hi tech background:

I have a 2.1 megapixel DSC-S50 Sony. The camera has an excellent macro mode
and I always use this if I'm closer than a foot or so to the model.
The lamps cost $10 apiece at wal-mart. The bulbs are 50/100/150 Reveal GE
bulbs. They cost $3.00 each. I know the bulbs were pricey but I really
think the white color that they put out makes the pictures much nicer. Also
the ambient quality of the indirect lighting probably helps a lot. Note
that its not completely indirect because the plastic shades are translucent.
I might get a cheap tripod one day too.

I hope this helps some. It looks like you have a pretty good camera so
thats the best way to start. The key with adjusting the levels in Photoshop
is to brighten the pic up and make the background whiter but not so much
that it bleaches out your model.
