Re: Drive R/C Servos with the RCX and pbForth (long)

(...) If you're using a custom motor driver in pbForth, why use the inverter circuit at all? Why not just generate the desired waveform directly? Is there not enough current to drive the servo that way? --Ben (25 years ago, 12-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Drive R/C Servos with the RCX and pbForth (long)

Hi again everyone! A few days ago I announced that I had developed a nice little circuit using easily available parts that would let you connect servos to the RCX - with no external batteries or microprocessors or anything! At that time, I said that (...) (25 years ago, 12-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Using Servos with the RCX - Yes!

(...) YES! Great job Ralph! (...) I love this. I could drive up to 6 pneumatic cylinders with a single RCX... wow! (...) The circuit is very simple to set up even for a non-electronic guy like myself. Give me just the time to lay my hands on one of (...)   Using Servos with the RCX - Yes!

Hi all, I've finally got my RCX servo driver circuit working. It was actually working months ago but I couldn't get the servo to stop jittering. Then I swapped in a different servo, and it worked like a champ! (URL) Before you get all excited, the (...) (25 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

Re: pbFORTH needs better uploading, docs

(...) Getting a working legOS development evironment no longer takes a day. On Windows plateforms it only takes the time to download WinlegOS.exe (5.6Meg) and running the installer (a few minutes). The system is completely configured and ready to (...) (25 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

  RE: installation problem!

(...) Ummmm, I think if you use NQC command line, the counter only goes to 1300 or so. I wonder 1f RCXCC is reading the SRECORD file and padding it to 16384 bytes. I wonder if it is actually loading the old firmware. I wonder.... Cheers, Ralph (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

  Re: installation problem!

(...) Yep - I did, same deal. Three times in a row, pbforth.srec uploaded fine all the way until the display read 1638 (which I presume is the end of the file) and then it cut out. I was a bit perplexed, so I re-uploaded firm0309.lgo, which worked. (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

  installation problem!

Running Windows98. All works well with original RCX firmware and NCQ programs. Was anxious to try out pbFORTH as an alternative!! Unzipped pbforth111.zip and used RCX Command Center to download pbForth.srec. Progress window looked good UNTIL the (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

Ralph, Many of us out here REALLY DO appreciate the work that has gone into PBForth. I see it as a programming tool similar in spirit to the Emu movement out there. (ie the Atari and C64 emulators) Here you are moving the computing workload out of (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

(...) Forgive me for flogging a (probably) dead horse, but I still fail to see what the problem here is. There is a freely available ANSI C compiler for most major systems today, including Mac, Windows, and most Unices. Further, I know from a great (...)   TpForth Project ?

Ralph, You might want to check out the TPForth Developer Studio, a cross compiling Forth system for embedded apps.
