Ralph,
Many of us out here REALLY DO appreciate the work that has gone
into PBForth. I see it as a programming tool similar in spirit to the
Emu
movement out there. (ie the Atari and C64 emulators) Here you are
moving the
computing workload out of the overpowered/overpriced PC on the desk onto
a
relatively humble bit of hardware. The result is that you can do some
pretty
amazing programming feats without the 500MHz and Megs of ram and stuff.
That, is pretty dammed trick if you ask me.
At some point, if you step away from the tools used to create a program
and embrace the PROCESS, you can see how elegant the process becomes.
Much of the spirit of building robots with Lego(tm) of all things is
pretty impractical and frivilous. Sure you can buy a cheap scanner
somewhere, but to make one out of lego, that is a thing of beauty.
In this day and age of modern GUI's/OOP Languages, going to
Forth as a solution may seem a step backwards to some. But IMHO, it is
very much in step with the spirit that has arisen from the whole Lego
Robot
community.
