  Re: HTML or Plain Text?

  Re: HTML or Plain Text?

(...) Heartily agree. I use Pine on three different op-systems, and choose to use Unix op-systems over Windows most of the time. Pine chokes on html files, requiring me to save the message as a file, and then look at it with vi. I usually choose to (...) (27 years ago, 2-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Book query

This mailing list is excellent but I need the Handy Board Rosetta stone. I wish too, that the (...) (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: L239

The L293E is not a replacement for the L293D. The D suffix means "Diode" and it includes the snubber diode to prevent the chip from being destroyed by inductive loads. --Chuck (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Burning hot motor driver chips.

Anthony can correct me if I'm wrong, but generally the phrase "converting an R/C car" means, taking a Radio Controlled model car, modifying and/or removing the radio receiver and motor driver circuitry, and replacing it with a computer. The generic (...) (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: servos going in circles

(...) Hi, there are two solutions : 1. (the simple one) The DC motors only seem to be the same but they are not. Add resistors to one motor until your robot moves straight. Determining wich motor should be connected to the resistors must be done by (...) (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Hardware or software??

Hi Rob, Based on the messages you're getting, I'm guessing you're running freeware IC under windows. If you run under DOS, it should work great. The problem is that, since freeware IC doesn't call Windows serial communications routines, it will (...) (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Hardware or software??

Hello, all. I've just gotten my handyboard from Gleason Research, and I am totally ecstatic to have these awesome capabilities physically possible at last. Well, anyway, I have had a few problems. First of all, IC (I have the freeware version) is (...) (27 years ago, 1-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Speech synthesizer

Hello All, I'm about to order a speech system from RC Systems. I remember a few months ago this subject was addressed on the list. Could anyone tell me which model would be best for the Handyboard-(V8600 or V8601)? Also how difficult it would be to (...) (27 years ago, 30-Sep-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  servos going in circles

Hi, I am trying to built my first robot and I have a question. I tried to make my robot "to be" move straight. (I am using the servos routines from the HB web page.) When I start the servos the robot just goes in circles not straight. I try flipping (...) (27 years ago, 30-Sep-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Small casters

I think you're talking about a game called Crossfire (it was very popular about 6 years ago), and there are still quite a few floating around (though I don't think they make it anymore), you should try some garage sales. BTW, the reason I know this (...) (27 years ago, 30-Sep-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Control Program Size

Hello, I'm most likely going to use the Handy Board for a robotics project I'm working on, but I have one concern. I don't know if 32K is enough memory for my control program. We are building several small robots to simulate under-water mine (...) (27 years ago, 29-Sep-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Small casters

Mar, I've never seen a caster as small as you describe, but I have seen something that might work. I use a "captured ball" bearing instead of a caster on my robot, and it works really well (no swivelling needed to change direction). I got these at a (...)   Re: Small casters

(...) You could try opening up any personal cassette player. I have used several of these. They have a rubber wheel (capstan head, pinch wheel I don't know what their proper name is) on a very convenient metal bracket. Most of the ones I have seen (...)
