Thanks to everyone for the responses.  I feel a little better about actually
using the port now.  I was concerned because of the speculation a while back
regarding why the port was removed, and I have no intention of burning out
the unit.

Your comment intrigued me into checking. I grabbed a couple of transformers
and checked them (with a 4 1/2 digit true rms meter).

Off load (open circuit) one reads 10.4v a/c, the other 10.9v a/c.

That is well within Lego's 9 - 12v a/c spec.

I use Radio Shack 273-1631. I have a number of these and I have been using
them for a couple of years.

These devices have a voltage selector switch which I set to 9v. In fact, I
wedge a short length of wooden tooth-pick in the switch slot to avoid it
accidently being switched to a higher voltage.

I have used these transformers for extended periods of time with no • apparent
ill effects to the RCXs.

I bet if you put that radio shack supply onto a multimeter you'd notice it
went as high as 13 volts...

Them multi selectors are not very acurate. Thankfully the RCX can handle
that sort of thing.
