Originally when I set it all up, the IR tower was working 50% of the time.
Enough time so that half of the firmware could download, then it stopped
working. After that I couldn't get it working again. I actually went and
swapped the tower with a fresh one from the place I bought it at.

It turns out that the problem might have been a combination of a dodgey COM
port, and only having half of the firmware installed. I changed the cable to
COM2, and took the batteries out of the RCX for a few minutes. When I
restarted, I told the software to look at COM2 and now everything is working
just dandy. I've now moved this lego set up to the status of -BEST TOY EVER-
!!

Cheers for all the replies, and thanks for the help,
Adam

So it was the tower. Good. I'm glad you found it. I have three towers
and never a problem so I was no help...

Welcome to the addiction!

Well, I've now had another machine that is running Win98 tell me that my • IR
transmitter isn't working... I've replaced -all- the batteries. Can't • really
think of anything else to try, other than a complete new transmitter / • RCX.

So I am wondering, what is the chance that the transmitter is stuffed? I'm
kind of annoyed that I spent almost $300 on this, I've put together a • whole
22 pieces and the thing doesn't work. Has anyone else had a stuffed
transmitter, straight out of the box? The RCX does all the motor / touch /
light sensitive tests, so I'm assuming it's the transmitter. What is TRU's
attitude to things like this?

(sorry for the cross post, but I need help!!!)

The standard Lego software for 1.0 and 1.5 will not work on Win2k.  The • beta
2.0 software will, but it doesn't have the pretty GUI language (not that • you
may want it), it is just a script language..  Having said that, have you
tried playing with the range switch on the front of the tower?

I've just bought RIS 1.5 (2.0 ain't out in Australia yet, boo boo!) • and
am
running Win2k. Everything seemed sweet, until I went to download the
firmware to the RCX.

The errors I get vary from the Tower not working, the RCX not working • or
the
Firmware starts downloading, then fails... So before I go and reformat • my
machine and install Win98 (again) I just want to make sure that • this -is-
a
Win2k problem, not anything to do with my kit.

All new batteries, and no apparent communication problems between the • PC
and
the Tower.

Cheers,
Adam

Ciao

Someone know if RIS2 software works under Windows 2000 PRO ?
Thanks !

LEGO says no.

None of their other products do so...

Sigh

I have the RIS 2.0 software installed and running under Windows 2000
Professional, using the old serial IR tower. I don't recall if I • actually
downloaded any software into a RCX using this combination - I'm • using
another Windows ME system for all RCX work.

Hello, I have been looking for info on how to build a posi-trac differential, which supplies power to the wheel with the /most/ resistance instead of the least as with a regular differential. I was hoping the functionality was mechanical, but I am (...) (23 years ago, 3-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)
