The current parts could be used - you would have to find alternatives, but
bringing an output out, then using the currently standard motor and wires,
you have your expandability back in a fashion.

Well, I guess - but the Spybotics firmware wouldn't know how to
drive the extra motor - unless it replaced one of the built-in motors
which would then be 'dead weight'.

I think you'd have to be pretty desperate to want to do that...especially
(as has been suggested) the Spybotics stuff is 4.5v internally.

(...) There are 7 outputs used to drive the Spybot LEDs. These are each individually programmable with the existing firmware. These outputs could easily be hacked to control additional motors using an external 9V battery box and some simple (...) (22 years ago, 3-Sep-02, to lugnet.robotics)
