  Re: New Group?

(...) If that is you Gord, then I think you have got a new email address and maybe a new continent! Malcolm S Powell (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Group?

(...) Umm... That would be me. (j/k) Or is this a trick question? I bet this is one of those damn transcendentalist(sp?) questions, isn't it? =) -Gordon (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Group?

As the author of GBP I get 3 or 4 emails a week about it and there have been 9,647 hits (I just checked) or the download page since I installed the counter about a year ago. My only problem with the idea of setting up a GBP group is that it might (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Extreme Mindstorms Book Question

(...) I agree that finding books on behaviour is a bit difficult.. That dives into the big world of computer programming... The robotics books I am referring to are at college now, and next time I'm on campus I'll look up their names (sorry for the (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Extreme Mindstorms Book Question

Henry, I would have to disagree about the non-Mindstorms book part. If you could point out particular books that you liked then that would be helpful. When I was researching for ideas for my book I searched on sites like Amazon for "robot" and (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

it will be good to see novelty. (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Extreme Mindstorms Book Question

Gordon, That is a good question. And I agree, there isn't much out there in this regard. In my book I talk about very simple (1D) robot navigation - remembering a place that you went to and going back to it. As far as more complex navigation goes (...)   Re: Solar cells and caps: lego part #s

(...) The solar cell is part no. 32339, and the capacitor is part no. 32342. (...) Ok I unscrewed the capacitor's housing to get a better look. The main capacitor is a "Gold Cap" brand electrolytic, 2.5V, 1F (!). It's soldered to a small circuit (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Solar Cell Output in Direct Sunlight

(...) That sounds about the right number. Whether it's enough to cover the cost of driving it depends on the nature of the vehicle. If it's something that only goes in straight lines then in can adjust the panel one time - and then only have to make (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Solar Cell Output in Direct Sunlight

(...) was delayed by over 24 hours from crynwr.com to LUGNET, and Steve emailed me a copy of the reply as well, I assumed it was private correspondence and replied in kind. Here's most of what was said: Steve Baker wrote: (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Solar Cell Output in Direct Sunlight

(...) The experts say that such a scheme can increase total power collected by up to 40%, though I'm not sure if this includes the power required to drive the steering mechanism. See: (URL) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Solar cells and caps: lego part #s

(...) Do you have the Lego part numbers for these? Is the capacitor like the commercial MaxCaps or SuperCaps? If so, we use these for NVRAM backup and could use them or might make them available to interested people. Thanks Bruce Boyes ------- (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: RCX & Cybermaster (VLL comms and MicroScout)

I think that a pBrick like RCX or CM isn't fast enough to detect PWM cycles. Don't know the speed of a legOS program. On top of that, I think that the sensors detect resistance, not voltage. You can do this test yourself, using two RCX's or one RCX (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Need for chat server?

Yes, I also like the static facilities of message-boards, newsgroups and mailing-lists, because it becomes a searchable info resource. To me, the use of a LUGnet IRC server (or simply a #LUGnet channel in any other ircnet), would be useful to simply (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Solar Cell Output in Direct Sunlight

(...) I agree - and another factor is the angle of the panel to the incident light. The amount of light varies as the cosine of the angle of the sun to a line thats perpendicular to the panel. Building some kind of a mechanism that tilts the panel (...) (24 years ago, 25-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Group?

(...) Well, sometimes there's only one way to find out -- build it and see if they come. If we create a group/list for it and it turns out DOA then we can either delete it or ignore it. If there's a user-base for GBP, and you've got (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Mounting non LEGO parts using M6 metric screw

Hi, you can mount mechanical components to LEGO bricks by using a M6 metric screw. The meassurement of the tubes inside of LEGO bricks is ideal for this size of screws. See (URL) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Extreme Mindstorms Book Question

(...) Agreed. I think that is a long way though. If you look at a lot of the current research, it is about tiny systems. I don't want information on large and complex systems, but clever systems. I am really keen to have my robots learn for (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  New Group?

Hey Todd (and others), I was thinking it was time for a sub-group for those of us using 'Gordon's Brick Programmer". Maybe lugnet.robotics.rcx.gbp ? _I_ could sure use some group support... Are there enough of us out there to make it worthwhile? (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)
