Re: Use for Bad Lego Motor

(...) It should spin easily with just fingertips against the cross-axle. It should continue spinning several rotations on its own inertia from a fast initial spin. (25 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Use for Bad Lego Motor

(...) Wait until after you get the new motor from LEGO. Sometimes they WANT the old motor back. I seem to be the king of bad motors. (7 at last count out of 16) All DOA. Lego has asked for about half of them back. I have one motor that spins fine (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

(...) Short answer is yes. Check out this thread at Lugnet: (URL) 2) 130mA. Is that enough? I'm not sure how the RCX works internally, but the (...) Short answer is no. A single motor can draw 100mA. (25 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Using laptop IR Port instead of the IR Tower

Hey folks, Has anyone been able to use a Thinkpad IR Port to talk to the RCX? I have been programming the RCX using spirit.ocx. All is well with the IR Tower connected to a serial port. I would like to get rid of the IR tower and use the built-in IR (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Help! I think I nuked my IR transmitter!

John Phillips here, I hope this comes out on the correct thread. I'm not quite sure how to post replies, if it does't any help on how to post replies would be appreciated. Monday after reading a few suggestions I thought I'd try again, well this (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

(...) The motors without any load don't draw much current. I guess that 130mA is not enough if you really make them work hard. Jürgen (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Use for Bad Lego Motor

The new Mindstorms RIS 1.5 set I gave my son for Christmas had a bad motor right out of the box. The motor is just jammed up and will barely turn by hand. I emailed Lego and they are sending me a new one (in up to 3 weeks!). We couldn't wait to get (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Motor Speed Code

Contact the 68332ABB site at www.egroups.com and sign on to the list server. Kenneth Maxon has done a lot of work with this kind of thing, and is a member. It's basically a no-brainer. Best regards, Gary Livick (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: "No Contact" Homebrew Train Sensor for Mindstorms

Just a follow up to this topic now that I have an RCX of my own (thanks Santa...and my wife) I found that using the Radio Shack light sensors for detecting on coming trains to the crossing works great. No special wiring needed at all, I basicly (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.robotics)

  RCX, java and sensor value

Hi everybody, i'm trying to make an interface between a java program and the lego mindstorm via the infrared port, for this, i use the Dario Laverde's java api for the rcx and parce the hex opcode to the robot. I managed to make sound, turn the (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

maybe not as fun, but you could just by an RCX that has an ac adapter jack: (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Where to Find Lego Grabber Arm Instructions?

Can anyone please point me to where I can find the instructions for building the grabber arm that's on the RIS box? Thanks! Bob (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

(...) Yes, they are linked in series. Have a look at (URL) the picture shows a RCX 1.0 The 1.5 design is sligtly different but the battery box is the same. greatings Carsten (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

I have a power supply that gives 9.3 volts and can give 130mA. Just 3 questions - 1) Presumably the RCX can take 9.3 volts? It's not much over 9V... (Sound of frying RCX) 2) 130mA. Is that enough? I'm not sure how the RCX works internally, but the (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  R2D2 & RCX

Does anybody know where I could download PDF schemes of R2D2, built of Droid Set and RXC? Kris (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

(...) Since it works fine with 1.2V recharable batteries I guess a little less then 9V is also OK. Also it should handle a tad above 9V w/o problems. I got a very nice transformator with both an analouge voltage and ampere meter but I'll hook it up (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Error in grabber arm instructions?

Steve, You have a complete list of the kit pieces on the last page of the constructopedia so you can check if there is something missing. I already had sets with missing pieces but they were already opened in the store. I don't believe Lego would (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Help! I think I nuked my IR transmitter!

I've put my battery in the IR Tower the wrong way, and it didn't seem to hurt anything. I know it took me a great deal of fiddling in the Control Panel before I got the serial port working correctly on my computer. To be honest, I really don't (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Motor Speed Code

Hi, I have a DC motor that provides quadrature encoding feedback. I'm using the 332 with the motor control TPU functions and I was just wondering if anyone has written any code or seen any code that will calculate the speed and direction of the (...)
