  1:10 Gear motors cheap(er)

I was just in my local Toys'r'us and they have the Lego Znap #3552 set marked down to $9.97. It has: 1 1:10 mindstorms motor - #5225 (Pitsco $16.25) 1 small battery box - #???? 1 short wire They also have a larger Znap set marked down to $14.97 (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Lego bulk (was :I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!) )

Here are some ideas (inspired by a model railroad club I know about but am not a member of). Some of the ones toward the end are more brainstorms than a thought-through plan. Take 'em for what they're worth. Acronyms used: AFOL = Adult Fan(s) of (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Lego bulk (was :I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!) )

(...) The problem wouldn't be so bad if I had to buy $20 worth of Air Tanks. Hell, I'd buy 5 sets tomorrow. The problem is that they 'salt' the kits with parts that you'll ever only need one or two of. Take the Hand Air pump. How many of them are (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

(...) I agree there. When Lego discontinued the pneumatics I ran out and bought up as many of the large pistons as I could... Now, of course, I'm short about 20 of the valves with no cheap way to get more. heh. At $45 CDN it's **VERY** costly. But (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

(...) Actually, I'm tackling that particular problem right now. I don't claim it's elegant, but I'm using the pneumatic valves interconnected with a robot arm in such a way that each time the arm goes up, valve A changes position. Then when it goes (...)   RE: Lego bulk (was :I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!) )

Great ideas. Maybe the LUGNET collective is someplace to begin. You can clearly see the marketing behind the pieces in the Star Wars set minifigs. Want Princess Leia or C-3PO? Buy the Millennium Falcon for $100 ... Want Padme? Buy the giant Pod Race (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Lego bulk (was :I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!) )

I suspect that their idea of bulk and ours is very different. They need to grab some mimimum $$$ per purchase to even make it worthwhile answering the phone. I suspect that figure is in the area of $20. So selling individual pieces between $1 - $4 (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

I agree on both points--the bulk and the pneumatics set availability--but this is still progress over a year ago. There were frantic messages posted not long ago that pneumatics might be going away for good ... so it's nice to see them making a (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

(...) It's very nice that we can now get the air tanks. But it's bittering that we must now pay a fortune for the entire 'kit' if we only want a few bits... LEGO's idea of BULK seems grossly different from others. Dean -- Coin-Op's For Sale!: (URL) (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

I did wonder if this was the case Thanks Jarec (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

The air hoses shipped with the set are long--and can be cut to whatever (and/or quantity) size the user desires. The catalog/image doesn't specify how long they are, though--but the pneumatics I've seen in sets are shipped the same way, and you cut (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

Is it my eyes or does the picture of the robot arm built with the Lego pneumatics set use more air pipes than the set actually includes. The three shown on the components list seems a bit lacking. Jarec (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

I am an Idiot (was Pneumatics Are Back!)

As I was putting up the rest of the scans from the new Technic "Power Packs," guess which one I inadvertently deleted--of course--the pneumatics set. The images are now up at (URL) . Doug Wilcox Senior Web Developer iMcKesson Provider Solutions (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Me and Giulio Ferrari made somethin gworking using a lot (28+6) of led to obtain results. When you think you have enough (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: IR Ball (was Soccer-Playing Robots)

(...) I tried to build something like this. I was just trying to make a film canister into a beacon (even if the LEDs had to be external). I was using high-output IR LEDs powered by small lithium watch/camera batteries. What I discovered was that no (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How good is 'toy grade' Lego?

  Re: Pneumatics Are Back!

Are those PURPLE pieces in the 5222??? You mean I won't have to use MegaBlocks or spray paint??? (quickly putting on flameproof suit) Way to go LEGO... now how 'bout something bigger than the 1x2 plates :) Dave (...) (25 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How good is 'toy grade' Lego?

(...) If I remember correctly the big blue tubs do not have the same quantity of black as with other colours. I think black and green share what each of the other colours have... The Bulk on S@H isn't very bulk... It would cost a fortune to buy from (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How good is 'toy grade' Lego?

(...) They're all the same great quality as long as you stick to real Lego. (This isn't just prejudice against the clone brands -- they really don't measure up.) (25 years ago, 6-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)
