For platforms that Lego supported, I needed to work through their drivers - otherwise people would have to install one set of drivers for NQC, and another (...) (...) Probably regulatory. Lego want to market this in many countries - and probably don't want to redesign and re-certify it in every market. I've found a paper on the notebook case that says 'Amity CN 2 was designed for win 95. If you wish to upgrade to Win 98 you must disable the USB. If you expect you will be using your USB Mitsubishi will upgrade the hardware to activate the USB (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Jonathon, Here are my "short" answers: 1) Reload your laptop fresh with Windows 98 to solve USB (and other) issues. 2) It is apparently possible to use the IrDA port to control 38~40KHz IR devices (RCX, Scout, TV, VCR, DVD). 3) The darkness issue (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

I've been wondering if anybody has any ideas why they chose to go with IR as opposed to RF? The substantial limitations of IR make it highly impracticle for robotics. I have thought about those methods as well, the only problem is when you don't work with the RCX's for just one robot. When you want to try a little bit with AI and interactions between different robots you can't have a master that requests, unless (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

I have a notebook mitsubishi, Amity CN wich has a USB port and an IR port. Does anybody know how can I use it to program RCX. Windows doesn't recognize the USB port and I don't know if installing the Lego software would. I could probably use the IR (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

There's one way for solving the problem with multiple IR communications at the same time. The method used for old computer networks is called a "token" wich is passed from PC to PC giving each one a chance to "speak". This could also be used for (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Hello - In the past I have burned out serial port towers, so I recently acquired the USB version of the IR tower.
