Well, I went with separate h-bridge to maintain PWM and it turns out that even though the motors are geared down, they still don't have enough torque to haul around all the batteries. May I pose a question for anyone who is in receipt of one of the new "Wot no RCX power connector?" RCX's. Have you opened it up to see if they changed the board layout? If they haven't, then it may be possible to populate the site with the (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Hey why use the palm pilot? You could use the color gameboy :) I mean it has a IR port on the top. The only problem is the fact that it uses cartridges :( If anyone can make a cartridge, then there is (or at least used to be) a section on (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I am coaching a team in the FLL contest. I need a supply of those 5 or 6 nub diameter foam balls -- at least 30. Does anyone have an idea of a source? Is there any similar thing that comes from Nerf? It looks like they have changed the boards fairly significantly. Many parts substitutions -- notable the capacitor farm looks like it has been replaced by a battery backup capacitor. The overall parts count seems to be reduced in more places than (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I was wondering about the speaker as well. The old RCX definitely can beep, and make a whole host of other sounds. Not being an electronics engineer, I'm was uncertain of my ability to identify the speaker on the 1.0 board. It's not the thing that's (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Though it is not nearly as versatile as programing your own RCX/Palm communication interface, there is a program for the Palm (with IR) called OmniRemote. It will let you control the RCX with the Palm TODAY so you can see if you like the idea. I (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

THis may be a dumb question on my part, but we are getting stack overflows on for loops such as for(int i = 0;i<1000;i++){...} when using values over 100 or so. Is this an 8bit counter thing or something else? Thanks, Owen Popplestone (26 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

I saw a LEGO MindStorms commercial on TV. I think I saw it either on MTV. The commercial has the Intel inside feel to it. Kinda hip, with bouncy music, and a bunch of LEGO robots dancing around. Yes I would recommend it for young children. So far the youngest ROBOLAB programmer on record is 4 years old (or maybe 3). There are many things in the new ROBOLAB 2.0 (out soon) such as scientific data graphing and analysis [see the pictures in the (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) You could get a battery adaptor, that is, a device for putting AAA batteries where AA batteries should go. They're available easily here in the UK - Maplins for example. Hi, I'm writing a Visual C++ program to control simultaneously 2 RCX (using Spirit.ocx). I'd need to know when a task is ended to start the download of a new task (I'd need a kind of TaskDone event). There is one on in Sydney now, with a lego robot, kinda like a bull-dozer, pushing all the dinner plates off a dinner table. Pretty funny.... I would like to know why the sony ir_data() only display 8 bit number instead of the 12 or 13 bit IR message? Does the number represent data only instead of the address or device?
