Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...) Neat idea! -- (Except all MIME posts are rejected by this newsserver...) Alternatively, would it be useful if there were a special area on the www part of the server for uploading .dat files, and having it index them and serve them back as (...)         Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Terry Keller
(...) That sounds like an interesting idea, Todd. Give it a shot. I would like to try it. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 12-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...) OK, here's what I came up with (feature list): * Storage on the lugnet.com server of LDraw .DAT files of models submitted, and the models are identified by their author. * Viewable by anyone with a web browser which can launch LDLITE (as Gyug (...)          Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...) I guess there's one other kinda cool feature... Authors can bookmark, trade, or publish the URLs of their submissions. For example, Terry could include the following on a web page of his: <A HREF="(URL)My B-Wing Fighter Model</A> or if he (...) (26 years ago, 12-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Terry Keller
(...) Way cool, Todd. At least it is cool in Netscape. So far IE doesn't seem to want to work right. Anyone get IE to work with this?           Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Linc Smith
(...) This seems to works. I don't know if this is what you mean? After installing LDlite and I made sure the .dat extension was associated with LDlite.exe. When I click on the .dat file reference on the web page I am asked if I want to save to (...) (26 years ago, 14-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Terry Keller
(...) I'm gonna have to fiddle some more. One problem may be that I had dat already associated to a text editor. I will delete that and see if ldlite associates properly by itself. Or just keep using Netscape for lugnet.cad.dat. :-) -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 15-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

I think if you just associate dat with LDlite you will be able to open dat files from IE LDlite installation notes: " LDlite will register itself as the default program for .dat files *if* no other program is already (...)          Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Paul Gyugyi
Waaaay cool, Todd. Of course, now I can think of a zillion ways ldlite could work better, like putting a "Save As" option on the menu, and having the zoom factor and viewing direction be set from a menu, and Saving all the comment fields to a (...)          Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Paul Gyugyi
So, I posted a .dat file to lugnet.cad.dat. The article did not come up with the option to run ldlite (using the standard nntp interface), so I'll see if this link will work: <a href="(URL)mudray.dat</a> (26 years ago, 13-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...)         Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Sarah Heacock

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...) Hmm, I wonder why they seem different to me than images... (hmm) I guess because they're not binaries. The rule was "no binaries," not "no images."          Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Mike Stanley
(...) I think the names of the groups themselves, in this case perhaps more than in others, would make it obvious that .dat is for .dat files whereas .cad is not. Then again, maybe I'm assuming too much. (26 years ago, 12-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman
(...) Oh yeh...the other thing. Binary images like GIFs and JPEGs are real über-pigs on bandwidth and disk space (over time). But LDraw .DAT files are about as thin as thin can get. --Todd (26 years ago, 12-Oct-98, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Publishing DAT files (was Re: B-Wing DAT file) —Todd Lehman

lugnet.cad.dat gets my vote. If I'm in a mood to see other's models, I'd like a one-stop place to go.
