  Re: Would like to know

(...) Not if it's a backup copy for your own use. You can tape Friends as long as you don't distribute the tape. You can dub Austin Powers as long as you own the original. (...) It's a slippery slope, dude. Stay away from it and you're nose will be (...) (23 years ago, 27-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: Six Wide Santa

(...) Well, it can introduce problems, but cameras are generally optimized for certain lighting conditions. If your camera has a white balance option, then maybe that would make it work. But I've never been able to get the colors right without (...) (23 years ago, 27-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: Would like to know

(...) Legal? can I get a hell no!! HELL NO!! But then who's gonna know? Guess what, if you taped Friends of tv or dubbed a copy of Austin Powers, that's illegal too. So you pick your morals I guess. Would I steal a car or mug and old lady? Probably (...) (23 years ago, 27-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: need camera advice.

Now, wait a minute. Not everybody can get $400 cameras for Christmas, and not everybody can afford to spend an extra $200 or $300, The camera costs about $100, but the reviews I found are great, they say that it's 'good for it's price.' 1.3 (...)   Re: Would like to know

(...) Not particluarly. Any sharing of software or media that is sold to the general public is technically stealing, with the exception of making a backup of a piece of software. (...) Good move! (...) It really isn't legal, although Kazaa gets (...) (23 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: Would like to know

(...) I wonder... is that legal? My friend at school tried to exchange a Kazaa CD burned Photoshop for a pencil, and I refused. What are the legal prediciments for Kazaa? I mean, distributing software for free online dosn't seem to be very legal. (...) (23 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.publish)

  Re: need camera advice.

(...) Jonathan: Honestly dude? Return it... trade up to at least a 3.3, otherwise you probably won't be happy with the quality. 3.3's are going for like $299 now and usually come with 2x optical zzom, and at least 6x digital xoom. I have a Sony, but (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish.photography)

  need camera advice.

I just got a new digital camera for XMAS. Its a Concord EYEQ Duo LCD. It says its 1.3 megapixels, 2x digital zoom, 9.9mm f/3.2 It doesnt have an optical zoom on it at all. Has anyone used this camera before, does anyone have any advice on using it (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: Six Wide Santa

(...) Good advice so far. (...) And here is where we differ. Flash introduces glare. If you can, use good lights, use a tripod and longer exposure times, etc, but avoid flashes. Some things flash makes better, some it makes worse. Conventional (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.publish)

  Re: Photographer etiquette questionnaire/survey

(...) I thought I might expand on this a little. I used to participate in ancient miniatures tournaments at the local gaming convention. This was long before Games Workshop - which may have funky rules, but have raised the standard of painting (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: Photographer etiquette questionnaire/survey

(...) Yes. If you aren't you probably shouldn't be displaying your work. If someone wanted to get in tight with a macro lens, it would be nice to ask permission first, however. (...) Yes. No (well, condition noted above, but that's because of close (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: Camera ?'s

(...) [...] (...) Doing film photography I learned that it's best to do your cropping when you take the picture, rather than afterward. So I try to compose all my pictures how I want them in the end, without cropping. Not that I always succeed, and (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Story crafting (was Re: Please read this!

(...) It can, but Tom Swifties can be even more irritating to read. Often you can just skip the whole thing altogether, and just have the quotes, if it's two people speaking... Bob walked up to Mary and whispered in her ear. "I think we should go (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: Camera ?'s

(...) Well, not always. What I ment is that, using high resolutions, you can, in effect, do a 'digital zoom' on an image-editing program. For example: (URL) took a 2048x1536 picture, then cropped out a 640x480 section, which held a monkey. The (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Story crafting (was Re: Please read this!

(...) If you're writing science fiction/fantasy, take a look at the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.sf.composition. There are some really great people there and a lot of good advice. You can find it via Google Groups if you don't have Usenet access... (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: Camera ?'s

(...) Personally I leave my camera set to 640x480 most of the time, though it can do 1024x768 (1.3 megapixels). That's all you need if you're just going to post it on the web. Higher resolution (i.e. more megapixels) is only needed if you want to (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

Hi Matt, Just delurking to adding my two-cents. Of all the books on writing that I've read, Kit Reed's "Story First: The Writer As Insider" is, by far, the easiest to digest. She writes in a pretty straightforward, conversational tone. It's not (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)

(...) My apologies with the rather tenuous response. My family gave me a little ten minute ultimatum on the computer, so I was pressed to write the reply rather hastily. :) (...) Nah, conventional fantasy is *way* too repeated. Maybe I should (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)
