  basic electronic parts?

I'm interested in adding some simple electronics to my models -- for example, lights, motorized lifts, and so on. Ideally, I'd be able to run (well-hidden) wires from the various lights and motors to some control panel where I would have switches to (...) (22 years ago, 10-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

Re: Brick separator once available in red?

(...) Looks red to me, also. Then again, the 10072 Beams set is always shown in catalog photos with black 44374 tri-beams, but Peeron lists them as the same PearlLtGray color that they originally made them in for the Gigamesh Spybot. I'd guess (...) (22 years ago, 8-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

Brick separator once available in red?

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can answer a question about the brick separator shown in this 1990 catalog photo: (URL) my screen it appears to be red. About the same red as the hinges shown just above it. Are my eyes deceiving me? Is my monitor (...) (22 years ago, 8-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

  Sidebar resources

I'm gathering a list of resources for information on Lego parts, custom parts, modified parts, parts theory, parts history, etc. for the sidebar of this group. If you have or know of some links that should be included, please email me or post them (...) (22 years ago, 7-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) I've often wondered (never got beyond that) whether one could use photo-etching to create masks/templates for airbrushing Lego elements. The folks that do face-painting at fairs and amusement parks use re-usable masks to quickly airbrush a (...) (22 years ago, 6-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) The scale modeling crowd also uses Future floor polish as a gloss-coat. I'm not sure if it would stand up to the rigors of playing with the sprayed part, though. Check rec.models.scale for references to Future for theories on how to airbrush. (...) (22 years ago, 6-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: STL File for 3D Printing

(...) Just a quick update on this ... The parts built with Stratasys and ZCorp machines are coming along well. My contact has printed a couple versions and Jason's been making improvements to the files that give us better results. I'll have pics (...)   Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Whoa! I forgot what kind of technical crowd I was talking to. By 'custom decals' I meant 'faked element prints' (so, actually even less correct than if I had meant 'stickers'). By 'label paper' I actually did mean stickers though. I haven't (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) That's right, I'm trying to think of ways to duplicate the look of actual Lego printing as closely as possible, and the paper labels are just too jarring - even with photoshop-printed paper labels we have to do a bunch of post-printing work to (...)   Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) For those interested in painting bricks, DullCote does a pretty good job of protecting most paints, though I'd suggest avoiding water-based craft paints in favor of actual model paints. I once used some Createx airbrush paint to apply silver (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Ah, I see. Terminology is sloppy - I use glossy photo paper myself, and Elmer's Washable Glue Stick (and colored pencils so that the edges aren't glaringly white). So I don't use decal, film, or glue-backed paper in actuality, though I call (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Imprinted? Take that to OT, mister. And be careful handling those screens--you might strain yourself. Dave! (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Hi Bruce... I was focused on the second sentence of those I left. In the second sentence he said "custom decals, running label paper" which is what confused me in his usage. Decals go on decal paper not sticker paper. Stickers go on label (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Mike was talking about a $30 mini-silk-screening machine (what make/model Mike?). I shudder to think what my compressor and double-action air brush would cost today -->Bruce<-- (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Silk-screening is a process that will directly print a given design onto a given object (passing ink/dye/paint through a screen/number of screens). I presume Mike means printing directly on the torso after removing any previous design first. I (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Indeed. The approach I used was to apply SolvaSet(tm) (A Walthers product IIRC, or maybe Microscale) to get the decal to conform to the shape of the model (fitting over rivets and the like) and then after it dried and was in good shape, a coat (...)   Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) As a former scale model fan, I know that there a quite a few products out there for durably securing a decal to your model. The problem is that these solutions are semi-permanent and the piece(s) will alway have that decal on it. This is great (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

  Re: Silkscreening parts

(...) Do you mean decals or stickers? I believe decals are printed on decal paper and you use water to float them off their backing and transfer them while wet, while stickers are printed on dry adhesive backed paper. Tangentially, there is a (...) (22 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)
