Of course!  But the idea of the label was so I'd know I was driving most
efficiently in each gear when I was driving at speed X.  Or something.  IT WAS
LIKE 4 YEARS AGO AND I WAS TRYING TO BE COOL.  Now I just put pseudo-hybrid
stickers on my fuel lid from IKEA in an attempt to make people think I drive a
hybrid.

Like puting a Type R sticker on your non-Type-R Civic.  Only much geekier.

Nowadays most cars have rev-limiters - Iain, I suspect your Tercel has one too.
Although I will not be held responsible if you decide to test it out, and as a
result have engine bits coming out of your tailpipe ;)

It does.  I've often had my music up too loud (typ.) and thought I was in 5th
when I was in 3rd.  It doesn't become obvious until you lift your foot off the
accelerator and the car lurches.

So yeah.  Here's my argument now then:  I need a tach because my music is too
loud, and my engine is too quiet.

(...) That's a good idea... but you can also shift by noise :) My friend's first car was an older Ford Ranger pickup, with a manual, and no tach. When I first rode in it, I was wondering how he knew when to shift - I think his response was something (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
