I hope Dave will chime up in a minute, because he was also a big proponent of 8"

But at the same time, I think the 8" cubed forces you to make a tradeoff between
over functionalization (possible through having more than one RCX) and size.
The hardest challenge in the previous contests was making the thing do something
within one RCX. If you have no RCX limit, then you've taken that challenge away.
The size limit doesn't let you off too easily.
As a side note, there was a new guy at the event yesterday. Unlike most of the
core group, he only has one RCX. Similarly, RobA only had three 9V motors and
needed to borrow a fourth--so, in the spirit of levelling the playing field for
entry-level, we might want to limit that.

There's one concern for me with the 4x4' which is it's nicer for the audience to
enjoy the event with a larger playfield. More fun!
