Hmmm... I can see both sides to this dilemma. Similar to Iain, I am no fan
of pressure. When you spend as many agonizing hours over your robot as you
do, it becomes a big attachment. You surely don't want it to disapppoint.
After the last competition, I was really quite disappointed in my pathetic
block barfer that I spent so much time developing. But thats life. A little
more pressure and crowd could be fun. I like the idea of rewarding the
winner, and making a bit more of a show out of it. In some way, our setup
seems to be a little too much on the who cares attitude. If you work so hard
on the darn robot, you want some sort of recognition! (Sorry if that sounds
selfish. I'm all for rewarrding the hard work of whoever wins. Dave
Schilling, for example, deserves a gold medal for his sumo bot. It was
incredible!). Another thought is that I also like the quieter, less
threatening environment where we can just chat and share cool ideas. Isn't
that what its all about?

I go for the challenge and whether there's 5 people or 5 thousand, to me it doesn't matter. I find the people who (...) (24 years ago, 8-Nov-00, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
