Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) As always. Would you expect less? :) But anyway. Now it's on. You got me mad. Get ready for me to KICK. YOUR. ASS. It's on, boi. Yeah, yeah. You know it. Iain (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Hello guys- I realize that I can sometimes get way off topic (BTW thanks for pointing that out Larry). In other news, concerning my RCX controller, I did a few sketches yesterday concerning the pneumatics and the touch sensors. As was mentioned (...)   Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) Because if you're using AC you're at an advantage because you *CAN* time everything. If you're using battery power you can't do that. You get that huge inherent advantage of being able to build a simpler robot that runs far more reliably (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) your a freak! Calum. how dare you try to force how I should build or program my robot. so what if I build "sloppy" so what if I use time.... so what if i use BRUTE FORCE. you know damn well that's not what the games are about. the only (...)   Re: rtlToronto15: Pipe Racers Pro Concept

(...) Yes. There was always a required path and in a previous incarnation: (URL) required path was the shortest path, because it was the ONLY path. The problem is the pictured construction is very difficult to build. (...) That's right. If you could (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Wow! rtlToronto...

I'll try to keep the tangents to a minimum... The last few days in our little corner of LUGNET have been interesting... Here's the thing--we are one of the most active orgs where postings are concerned. We have 'bot competitions, which intrigue many (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) I'm currently working on a design for rtl14 and hope to have a robot to enter. (...) I've seen a lot of back and forth on this question with good points by both sides. Here's a few of my thoughts on the issue: 1. With AC power, a robot will (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) No, because AC power also means you can be sloppy with control loops. You can brute force time instead of using clever mechanisms (Iain/Rob) or sensoring everything (Chris, Bruce) (...) This is why I was against the external battery box of (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Vineet, I don't think it takes cahones to answer questions that can be answered by doing basic research. I think it takes patience. A LOT of patience. You need to do that basic research. *You* need to go to the rtlToronto website and do a (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Bruce Sheridan- I am asking "infantile" questions, 'Will the robots be RC controlled, or controlled via laptop'. Take a look at you. You didn't even have the cahones to answer one of my earlier posted questions, 'What is Project X'?, as if you (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) too bad you guys don't do sumo. At the Brickfest Sumo, the first place prize was a 1.0 RCX with power suppily, and a Spybot. I have a suggestion that may clear up a couple things.   Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) I'm not entering so I have no official say. We allowed ext. power for project x 'cause, well, the 'bots didn't move. IIRC, I noticed in the vid for monkey bars that one was using ext. power. but then there should have been no chance that bots (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Well. I guess that is a better explanation than you posted before. Thanks for posting it. It may not be a good technical answer but at least it has democratic rationale. Ben (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: rtlToronto14 AC issue and entrants

(...) To my mind, it's a perfectly good reason for saying no. Let's turn the tables and suppose allowing AC was the norm. I come along and requested that AC *not* be allowed because I can only use batteries. The response would likely have been along (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
