Yes. There was always a required path and in a previous incarnation:

...the required path was the shortest path, because it was the ONLY path. The
problem is the pictured construction is very difficult to build.

That's right. If you could build a robot that could intelligently figure out
the shorter path (ie, have a "global view" of the racetrack) then I guess that
would be very cool. But they won't, so you'd never really have enough knowledge
in the robot to be able to take shortcuts.

Exactly. I figured this from day one back in March or whatever. You will
probably have to change shape to clasp both, but the functions are:
a) Clasp front
b) Clasp rear
c) Pivot middle
d) Drive Front
e) Drive Rear
f) Rotate Front
g) Rotate Middle
