Hey folks,

Here's a graphic to give you an idea of what rtlToronto15 could be like.

http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/people/tsangc/nglcl/rtltoronto15concept.jpg

-Notice that the structure is made of 90 degree pipes running into only T
shapes.  While the game will probably be called "rtlToronto15: Project Y" to
continuity's sake with Project X, I think this will be the only shape.  (Watch
for a trip to Home Depot to return piles of 45 degs, or rtlToronto16: Fun With
Elbows coming soon!)

-Some T's exist only to give support to the maze. The verticals fit into
stanchions, mike stands, table legs, etc.

-Which path to go to is determined by the collar on the approach pipe.  The
correct path is labelled by a 180 degree stripe of electrician's tape on the
side of the correct direction.  The stripe also allows robots to rotate until
aligned with the T correctly.  The tape could be white for black pipe, black for
white pipe, etc.

-I'm not sure if we'd standardize on a way of setting up T's.  Ie, only have T's
configured that you always approach on one of the coaxial collars, OR allow for
both approaching on a coaxial collar OR the orthogonal collar (ie, the stub that
veers out).

-The maze is symmetrical.

-Doug Carlson showed us some American PVC T's which were FRICKIN TIGHT.  ie,
pound out with a rubber mallet tight.  If we can find these in Home Depot, we
could possibly use these instead of gluing segments.

Does this make sense?

Calum

(...) <snip> (...) I like it! It fixes all known issues neatly. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get a robot to detach itself from one pipe and latch onto another. Dave K (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) "shortest" path? At the marked T just to the left of the right support leg, the path leads upward, but if the robot were to remain traveling to the right, it would rejoin the marked path much closer to the end, avoiding a whole section of (...) (...) One other thing for all builders (robot and Pipe track) that I think is worth talking about... At Brickfest, one of the 'test' courses only had about six inches of clearance between pipes, and also between the pipe and the ground. Given that (...)
