Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto16 Preliminary Rules Released

(...) The is why Chris' makes a good point when he says the winning robot should be the one that hits the top mark first, not passes the lower mark. If a robot is spooling there is no way to tell when it passes the lower mark. So if we say you must (...) (21 years ago, 23-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto16 Preliminary Rules Released

(...) My 2 comments: 1. How about using black electrical tape OR simply marking up the rope at the right distances with a Sharpie. I'm thinking that the electrical tape may be too slippery to be grabbed by the 'bot? 2, What if we install some type (...) (21 years ago, 23-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto16 Preliminary Rules Released

(...) I agree that spooling is a valid strategy. There are two goals to having the robot within two marks: a) Definitively saying if you've "made it". b) Ruling out people who might leave a portion of the robot behind. I want to hear additional (...) (21 years ago, 23-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto16 Preliminary Rules Released

(...) This may be construed as nit-picky, but I believe the spirit of the game will allow the bottom-most part of one's robot to be above where the 11' mark was, or would be if the rope were still hanging straight down. Am I right? I consider (...) (21 years ago, 23-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) my 2 comments: 1. I'd like to know earlier than a week before about registration. say 3 weeks???? 2. this is not correct: (...) actually, the first to reach the upper mark AND be above the lower mark wins. to me, you can over run the upper (...) First there was Annika Sörenstam against the male golfers (not that golf is a sport) and in August Susanne Ljungskog will compete against the males in cycling. (...) Yeah, right. Now (...)   Re: Regarding the rope climbing

(...) Do you mean like climbing the rope by rolling it up onto a drum or something like that? I think that would be a legitimate and different way to climb the rope. The only problem is determining when the entire robot has passed the, you must be (...) (21 years ago, 22-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Regarding the rope climbing

I have kind of a nagging question about rtl16: The rules as discussed so far do not prohibit one from simply grabbing the bottom of the rope and then twirling the claw, thus wrapping it up. Or is this a legitimate way of 'climbing' the rope? Mike (21 years ago, 22-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Wow-Wee's Robosapien - cool stuff

I found this while browsing the Solarbotics website. It is Robosapeien - a humanoid-like robot. Its due out this summer and I imagine that at some point it could be programmable from external systems... Videos: (URL) (21 years ago, 21-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
