A few comments on layout proposals:
- how important is it to have a 2-way connection between a pair of
otherwise independent loops? That can take not much space if it
is done when tracks from the two loops are close together. The
Oct4 layout does that an interesting way - with reversing loops
doing the job. Watch out for the electrical connections on
that scheme, but it ought to work.
- don't worry about having space for my logging stuff - I've already
taken it apart, so next time will be something different, unless
you all really want it back.
- I have a *ton* of BURPS, and lots of basic bricks. So, we can build
a fairly large section of raised terrain/mountain if we want to.
Personally, I think that would be very cool. Also, having full-
height mountain essentially gives us more space, by having things
on two levels a bit. E.g. we could have a part of an outer loop
going through the largish mountain area, perhaps going across an
open gap (where there is a stream, which can be done by raising the
lower track just one brick, so we could put stuff under it). Then,
we could do something like have a yard on top of the raised part.
Yup, that'll take quite a lot of bricks. I would do it out of
the large 1-high baseplates supported by 4 x 4 pillars. I have
20 of the 12 x 24 x 1's, and a few of the 8 x 16 x 1's in green,
and a bunch of the smaller ones in other colours. Also the even
smaller 4 x 12's and 8 x 8's if we are tight. The monorail
could spiral in-and-out of one end of the mountain area. For
example, in either the Oct14 or Steve's version, the entire
upper-right corner could be mountain. The northern bridge then
heads straight into a tunnel. Too bad I don't have the software -
I could try out some things. Maybe eventually I'll get VMWare
going and be able to run a virtual PC with Windoze...
I forget what else I was going to say - going and counting has erased
my brain!

Don't design inefficiency in - it'll happen in the implementation.

| (...) I think it's a good idea. Especially if the train yard is off only 1 line (likely), then we should either be careful to have a 2 way connection, or make sure that our engines run in 1 direction only. Keeps down the 5-finger switching I'm so (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug)

The neet thing about Matt Bates program, is that it (...) (24 years ago, 8-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug)

| I'm having fun with this... It's like puzzle pieces. :) Here's some more table layouts: (URL) of these days I'll get bored with musical tables, and actually lay some (virtual) track... What do other people think about how the tables are laid out? (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug)
