Well, I don't think it would be any easier to hose 1000 loose balls than
1000 boxed ones, but it would certainly do less damage to the product,
however, the hose really should be aimed at the teenage jerks who play
ball in the toy store aisles...

Trying not to take this out of context or anything, when you say hose,
are you saying store, as in storing the balls? I am slightly confused &
perplexed on my own, not by you or anything, I think I need more
coffee.....

In your original statement, you said "hose" when I assume you meant
"house". I was just making fun (sorry for being off-topic...)

I also see some value in legislation which kicks us in the pants to
clean up our act. I wonder where minorities would be today without all
the civil rights legislation?

Well, I hate to say this, but environmental regulations versus civil
rights legislation is, in my view, two totally separate things. Treating
humans equally is a universal right, mandatory environmental
regulations, with inane or outdated laws, is debatable, and clearly an
overreach of power of the federal government.

True, but many of those civil rights laws infringe just as much on
Liberatopia as environmental laws.

Really? What ones are you referring to? If you are referring to
Affirmative Action, I would agree to a point. There are two points from
that, 1) You can't discriminate an the basis of race, etc. The 2nd one
set up the affirmative action, where you have to have x slots just for
minorities, or a certain percentage. That is not right, in my book.

To a pure Libertarian, laws telling you that your store must serve
anyone regardless of race (ect), are an infringement of the store owners
rights. I agree with this basic point, which is why my statement of
wondering where we would be without such laws. How could we have
improved the lot of minorities without laws _forcing_ people to deal
with minorities. From a pure rights oriented point of view, these laws
are just as bad as "quota" laws.

Of course I have also seen evidence that society will correct problems
in dealing with minorities when the market is sufficiently free to
expose the true economics (costs and benefits). I have heard my manager
at IBM state that while he _personally_ finds homosexuality
distastefull, he would fully support IBM's initiatives to be more
friendly to the gay population. Reason: pure economics. The gay
population has a lot of money to spend, and the market has proven that
they are willing to spend more of it on products from gay friendly
companies.
