There, you've explained how the safety valve works :-)

Fun, and instructing.
I've learned much from the care many of the debaters put on their research
of the topics under discussion - many things of which I'd never even think
about, either because where I come from they are not under discussion (in
society, that is), or because I wasn't even aware of their existance as
discussion topics!
Regarding your overall analysis, I think while it may be true that most of
us do not change views easily on a subject, it is also true we get much more
information - what we do with it is up to us, but it's better to have the
most possible information when it's time to make choices, right?
Oh, and the good thing is, we get to experience how small and unimportant
our oppinion is in the big picture. Which is good (for me at least, when I
get all delirious about changing the world and stuff, moulding it to my own
morals): sometimes this part of the forum acts as Ground Control calling us
back to Earth.
Just my .02,
Pedro
