Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

First I should say I am anti-gun ownership, possibly partly due to the fact that I am a UK subject (not citizen as I don't live in a republic) A point that appears in this thread is the term gun crime. In the UK pretty much all gun deaths/injuries (...) (21 years ago, 18-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) I think if it actually came to nukes everyone lost already. Of course I happen to think oblivion is better than slavery, but I would still consider that losing. (I may be a little crazy, but I am not stupid.) -Mike Petrucelli (21 years ago, 18-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) Well, call my old man paranoid, but he is convinced the "smaller" nukes just okayed by the Senate are for use "in country." I generally support the right of citizens to be armed at the same level as the professional military, but I think I'll (...) (21 years ago, 18-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  The Unstraight story

Bush: No evidence Saddam was involved in 9/11 attacks (URL) "There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al Qaeda ties," the president said. But he also said, "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11" attacks. The (...) (21 years ago, 18-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) My vote has no power at all. The power of the people is derived from their status of being collectively stronger than the military forces of the government. I seriously doubt that will ever need to be used, but so long as the government has (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) Explain the Civil War (from {either} vantage point). (...) That is an extremely false analogy - is Frank saying that we need to have flintlock rifles and muskets? No, so where does this stuff about candles and dirt come in? Technological (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: PRIORITY TRANSMISSION

(...) In my view you always want both a router and a software firewall behind it. I just bought a Linksys BEFSR41 at Best Buy for $40 after the mail-in rebate. With a hub the thing expands to something like 50 DHCP/static IP boxes -- more than (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: PRIORITY TRANSMISSION

(...) You do realize, of course, the irony of not cross-posting that? ;p James (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: The return of Opus...

(...) (URL) of course, answers just about nothing beyond what it says right there in the URL, and the date of November 23rd. Be sure to check your underpants before then. ;-) -->Bruce<-- (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: The return of Opus...

(...) I think Breathed is going to feature Opus. I dunno if it's going to be a remade 'Bloom County' or 'Outland' or something completely new, but supposedly Opus will be in it. Dave K (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) And I mentioned that in other countries, an armed citizenry is needed in order for them to make it to the end of a day. Are you saying that America is on par with Afghanistan? That you face the same problems? (...) Cites please. Show me at (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: PRIORITY TRANSMISSION

(...) Ya, but so can cleaning up after worms and virii! These days, running directly connected to the internet without some sort of firewall between you and the rest of the world is not good, in my view. I was running that way for a while and was (...)   Re: The return of Opus...

(...) Yay! Is our favorite penguin going to be part of this, or is this a totally new creation? Bruce (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) A cynic might even claim that the only reason the civil rights movement progressed was that a white minister was killed... See: (URL) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Sticking my gun where it doesn't belong...

(...) However, fighter jets and ICBMs don't "hold" territory. Just look at what's going on in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine for examples of what an "armed" citizenry might be able to do to resist oppressors. (...) Right now the situation is not (...)   Re: PRIORITY TRANSMISSION

(...) Why do people post 1600x1200 pictures on BrickShelf? I love looking at these pictures where I have no idea what on earth the thing is because you have to scroll all over creation. People are just lazy sometimes. Personally, I crop pictures (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: PRIORITY TRANSMISSION

(...) Actually, I just tried to get DSL. It's not cheap for me. I would have to upgrade my OS (I'm still running Windows 95 at home - I just tried to get DSL, they wouldn't sell it to me because I'm not using a supported OS), which would probably (...)   Californication....

Supposedly from 'The Daily Show' last night... (since I only have basic cable and don't get to watch it) " "Let's see. Darrell Issa found an obscure clause in the CA Constitution from over 130 years ago, shelled out over $2 million of his own money (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  The return of Opus...

(URL) there are glimmers of hope. There are hints of salvation. Because Berkeley Breathed, genius creator of the much-loved and expertly drawn and slyly wry "Bloom County" strip from the '80s, is returning to the Sunday comics page. " " "Bloom (...)
