  Re: A serious clone question

I think it's very easy for those of you insisting on brand exclusionary practices to see yourselves as inoffensive, but you're not. The very act of telling someone like Dave! to stay in his little corner of lugnet and not come out or be seen by (...) (21 years ago, 18-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

  Re: A serious clone question

(...) That's kind of what I had in mind, but I wasn't sure if even that would be beyond the bounds of the MOC announcement group. My recent MOCs have been 100% clone, with arguable overlap among "common" elements, like 1x8 bricks and 2x2 tiles. If I (...) (21 years ago, 18-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

  Re: A serious clone question

(...) You are my hero, Hop-Frog, uniter of the Lugnet community by insulting most of us. As for me, I was only saying I'd rather not see clone elements, but hey, it was YOU who started insulting other people, so I guess it makes you the (...)   Re: A serious clone question

I take exception to the idea that I am merely baiting people in this discussion. I think that such an assertion is false even if you are looking at only my first posting on the subject. That I raised the issue of "brick brand xenophobia," even from (...) (21 years ago, 18-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

  Re: MEGA BLOK tile/plate

(...) Thanks for the scan. Weird. MEGA BLOKS doesn't usually seem to favor the cluster of tubes on the undersides of plates, as in the 6x8 or 8x8. The yellow Power Ranger set has a 4x4 tile with the lip/edge and tube configuration of example A, so I (...) (21 years ago, 18-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

(...) But later said (without admitting the difference in meaning): (...) Note the huge difference in phrasing. The first statement is classic intolerance of others and is, in my view, unacceptable. The second is intolerance of intolerance, and is a (...) (21 years ago, 18-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

See: (URL) Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2000 05:18:47 GM "I was also carving bricks from the first (see my wings attachment at the page noted above)." also: (URL) It's probably mentioned before that time, but those refs will suffice -- not a year, but at (...) (...) You made a typo there. It's spelled "s-e-l-e-c-t-i-v-e". Either that or "d-i-s-c-e-r-n-i-n-g", depending on the exact meaning you were shooting for. (...) Really?   Re: A serious clone question

(...) And such affirmation is too. I don't think i'm an idiot because I don't appreciate clones, but nontheless, your answer was purely provocative and I won't sink to the level of excusing myself or saying that i'm a purist or not. Purists are (...) (21 years ago, 17-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

  Re: A serious clone question

(...) Interesting. I think Mega Bloks is directly responsible for saving The Lego Company. If not for Mega Bloks successfully taking a portion of the market share and forcing TLC to reevaluate its direction of straight down the toilet a few years (...)   Re: A serious clone question

(...) I'd agree with Terry. <<snip the personal brick xenophobia>> It IS a Lego resource, and the opportunity for us to leverage some of the impressive community systems here into our extended appreciation of the power of the brick is a discretion (...)   Re: A serious clone question

(...) Gee...then how about: Lego purists insisting on 100% lego purity from others are idiots. ??? Are you trying to make "my list," Crawford? :) -- Hop-Frog (21 years ago, 16-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)

  Re: A serious clone question

But in all seriousness Richard, labelling purists idiots I find very arrogant and just a little offensive - it is simply a choice some people make, maybe for brand loyalty, maybe for a greater challenge - whatever the (...)   Re: A serious clone question

(...) Well, I'd have to disagree and say "probably". My main focus is technic, and several great MOCs have been announced and discussed in the technic group which use modified LEGO, or totally user-created parts (the obvious example is John Barnes' (...)   Re: A serious clone question

Purists are idiots. I can't think of another situation in which someone would have this kind of insane brand loyalty when working with a particular medium.   Re: MEGA BLOK tile/plate

(...) Neither. See: (URL) The face of the tile is 5x5 with no interior studs. The backside has tubes and "pits." The edges do not have a lip, or groove for fingernail gripping -- they are flat down the sides. If such a tile were to be placed (...)
