Ebay - On the rise, or ... ? —Pawel Nazarewicz
I hate to say this (mostly because I've been around long enough to know what a lot of people here think about e-bay), but I just continue to be mesmerized by E-bay as a *seller*. Granted, it's frustrating as a buyer, but as a seller, what else could (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) Why, Mike Stanley's "BRICKS" and Derick Bulkley's "Serious Collector", of course! These places do auctions right, IMHO... --Todd (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Ebay - On the rise, or ... ? —Julie Krenz
(...) True, true. But Mike is possibly shutting down BRICKS for a little while (URL) giving Yahoo another shot. It's interesting that for the Lego listings they have it categorized as "Lego" and "Star Wars Sets" or "All". Julie (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Ebay - On the rise, or ... ? —Steve Bliss
(...) I heard Yahoo! is now charging for auctions. I haven't confirmed that personally, yet, so take this message with a grain of salt. Steve (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Steve Bliss wrote in message ... (...) Yahoo is still free, unless you want to feature your auction. In an interesting twist, they let you decide how much you are willing to pay per day to feature an auction ($0.25 min per/day, partial days are (...)       (...) They do, but e-bay is right now at the point where the traffic for miniscule pieces is what I consider pretty high. Random people that are happy with e-bay will log and and do a random search. For example: 5 Windshields from 6441 went for over (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Ebay - On the rise, or ... ? —Scott Arthur
(...) If the purpose of a auction is to maximize return (inc. fees) sellers will always choose the method that does that. With that in mind, it is difficult for anyone to break the dominance on ebay I think. Scott A (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Ebay - On the rise, or ... ? —Mike Stanley
(...) Yeah, I doubt SC will ever compete with the sheer HUGE potential buyers audience that eBay has. I know BRICKS never will - if for no other reason than it doesn't offer a lot of the features and I just plain don't spend much time talking it up. (...)        (...) This is a good point. When I do deals with non-AFOLs I often hear, "I could get more for this, but I'm glad it is going to somebody who will look after it like my kids have". There is no worse feeling than getting beat to a good set at a car (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
