That's not how eBay feedback is seen or used.  It is almost
completely _quantity_-based.  You'll see people say, "I don't think
someone with such a low number feedback should be making comments
like that."  Even if the person has 5 purely positive comments.

Fair enough, I tried not to pass any judgement as I do believe that what Larry
is asking about is neither 'right' or 'wrong'. The only real point that I was
trying to make is that doing something just because everyone else does it isn't
necessarily a good reason to do it. Personally I wouldn't solicit feedback -
that's my choice and I respect anyone else's decision either way.

There are some good people selling things on eBay.  There are also a
lot of losers selling tons of crap on there who think they're
"better" than anyone with less than 100 comments.

That is *their* problem, until it becomes *your* problem - ie people choose not
to buy from you as they didn't have to spend an hour reading your feedback.
This is why I feel that soliciting for feedback can be justified.

If it is the case that a lot of people 'conspire' together to give each other
good feedback then it's up to you whether you want to join in with that. Or
you could make a note on your eBay pages that you don't solicit feedback.

Conspire?  I HAVE dealt with Larry before.  I left feedback because
I wanted to, not because I'm conspiring with him.

Bah! I am truely sorry if what I said was too vague or unclear. I'm going to
quote myself:

Ie. feedback is 'worth' a lot more if the person is so
truely impressed with your service that they decide of their own accord to
take the time to leave you positive feedback. Regardless of whether the
dealing was on eBay or not.

To me that describes you and Larry, which is not the same as people who decide
to leave each other positive feedback for mutual benefit - rather as a true
reflection of the service. There is a good case for considering the latter a
form of conspiracy or fraud as it is making a false or exaggerated statement.

There is a difference between saying:
"If you think my service is good then would you consider leaving me some
feedback as I don't have that much".

and:

"If you leave me positive feedback then I'll do the same for you".

Cheers,
Richard
