Here's a theory question for you. Is it wrong to solicit eBay feedback?
Is it uncouth? I want, for purely selfish reasons, as well as for
reasons to do with the whole Quixote thing, to see my feedback a bit
higher than it currently is.

I've done a lot more than 6 deals on eBay but 6 is all the feedback I
have. Would I be wrong to dredge up those old deal addresses and
solicit? How about stumping for people who have done deals with me
elsewhere? I've left feedback for other people based on my knowing them
by reputation even if I never did an eBay deal with them and saw nothing
wrong with doing that. (1)

Anyway, if you don't think it is wrong, and you were wondering what
the link was...

this shows you my feedback:
http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=larryp@novera.com

this lets you post some, should you be so inclined:
http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?LeaveFeedbackShow&useridto=larryp@novera.com

1- see:  http://pages.ebay.com/services/forum/feedback.html
in particular item 2, quoting: "2. Leave Feedback about an eBay user -
You can leave a brief comment for any eBay user. Most members leave
messages about a buy or sell transaction, but you can leave a note about
anything. " (2)

2 - except things construed as bid siphoning, apparently :-)

(...) I don't think it's wrong at all. Everyone I've done business with on eBay (all 2 or 3 of them) have requested that I leave good feedback for them, offering to do the same. I don't think you can actually leave positive feedback for someone (...) (25 years ago, 18-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

I can't see anything wrong with asking people, provided you are confining it to a simple request to leave feedback if they are happy with a transaction and you are not putting any pressure on them. I've received goods before with enclosed notes (...) (25 years ago, 18-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) (I've added a few '' pairs to any words that I condider subjective!) I don't think that it is wrong as such, but for me it goes against the principle of feedback. Ie. feedback is 'worth' a lot more if the person is so truely impressed with (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) I do believe that this is the norm on eBay, and would hardly be considered uncouth. While I do not actively solicit feedback, I have managed to get to get a decent number of positive feedbacks (46 rating). I'd wager though, that if we compared (...) This is a problem for me too. What I do is say: "I’m happy when you are happy. I’ll post feedback as soon as you do the same for me." I thought this would upset my buyers/sellers, but the oposite has been true. I've had a few e-mails saying that (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) No. (...) Yes. But it's also the norm. (...) It seems that you have succeeded. (...) You have more than doubled that with this note. Good job. (...) Nah, but they might think it's odd. (...) Why not? If eBay didn't want that, then they'd (...) (25 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
  Re: Feedback solicitation

I read in the eBay rules once that positive feedback can be given to anyone for any reason, but negative feedback must be transaction related. I think there was an example for a positive feedback that said, "So and so turned me onto eBay, forever (...) (25 years ago, 29-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
