Define "bad bidder." I define that as anyone who wins a lot and does not end up
paying for the lot--and, of course, if they don't pay, they don't get the lot.
There's only a handful of people to whom I will ship before I have received
payment, and that's usually based on LUGNET acquaintance.
But by these terms, I seem to have a fair number of deadbeats. I think I've run
about 35 auctions so far (since late December), and I've had *four* bidders who
have not yet paid; two of them never even responded to email, even though they
continue to buy and sell on ebay--and I'm considering neutral caveat-feedback for
being a "timewaster." I get the occasional email saying "oh, I'll track down the
payment or issue a new one" from the others but that doesn't change the fact that
it's been two months. Fortunately this last batch is much more forthcoming, but
I also toughened my language significantly. For example, I now set a time limit
for first contact as well as a time limit within which payment must reach me (or
alternate arrangements made). I feel mean for doing it, but it seems to weed out
the ambivalent bidders so far.
Have you ever had a foot-dragging bidder get upset when you stick to ebay rules
and forfeit their win? (I haven't, but I wonder if anyone here has.)
best
Lindsay
