Re: Popula, the quirkiest auction site? —Kevin Salm
(...) Yes, The Serious Collector is definitely more dignified than evil Ebay. The best feature has always been the resettable auction clock which effectively eliminates sniping. I also like the seller option of extended auctions for as long as 30 (...) (25 years ago, 23-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Probably the same reason people mostly stopped using BRICKS (which is now dead, but not simply due to low usage) - sellers list things not buyers and sellers want to (...)           Re: Popula, the quirkiest auction site? —Kevin Salm
(...) Yes, the auctions are a bit slow as compared to other venues. But the fact that sniping is eliminated should be incentive for bidders--they can rest easy that they will not lose their high bid standing without time to react. Of course, many (...)           Re: Popula, the quirkiest auction site? —Kevin Wilson
(...) This is really a chicken-and-egg situation: in a venue where there are not enough bidders to run the price up, sellers set the price to what they hope to get and usually the item sells at or near that price. This is one reason I don't use (...) (25 years ago, 24-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) The Serious Collector's prices are even worse than eBay (no, I didn't think this was possible either). Plus, the auctions semed to take forever to end. (25 years ago, 25-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Popula, the quirkiest auction site? —Chris Dee
(...) I used TSC as a seller early on and got market rates, but after a while it never seemed to get the traffic. As a result some buyers (including Larry) got bargains, and I lost out on what I might have got on eBay. I switched from TSC when two (...) (25 years ago, 24-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Proportion of bad bidders on eBay? —Kevin Wilson
(...) I don't agree. Out of 234 completed auctions this year I have one possible deadbeat. Out of >500 this year and last I had <10 deadbeats total. I think that's pretty good. Are your figures very different from that, Scott? Kevin (25 years ago, 24-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Proportion of bad bidders on eBay? —Larry Pieniazek
Transatlantic shipping may be part of the issue. I had one bidder whinge about fixed shipping charges being too high, and some other misc whinges from other bidders lead me to believe that there is a non zero fraction of bidders that don't read the (...)           Re: Proportion of bad bidders on eBay? —Mike Stanley
(...) I always either list exactly what the shipping costs will be (if it is a smallish-medium set under 2 pounds 3.20 for PM) or I say cost plus some amount - normally 50 cents.
