Dont worry - who said 'modern' town centre.
Plenty of town centres (UK at least) have tudor and Georgian.
My current plaza has a large victorian building, the large civic building
georgian style, plus the more modern office blocks and station.
I am also in the midst of pondering on a 'city wall' type thing (a la
York/Chester) as a way of introducing some castle bricks. e.g. having a old
'gate' into the town centre.
