Cost of registration for Brickvention 2006

Having read a lot of the threads complaining about the $50 registration cost for Brickvention 2006, I thought it was actually very cheap for a two day convention even if things haven't been finalized yet and I have sent off my registration. As for (...) (19 years ago, 9-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Brickvention Accomadation

(...) Sounds like a great idea! If any locals can help, please reply here. Another option is other inter-staters who might not mind sharing hotel rooms. ROSCO (19 years ago, 9-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Brickvention Accomadation

Hi All, I too am a little concerned over travel costs to Melbourne. Flights between Perth and Melbourne aren't cheap and I still have to work out how to get my LEGO models over safely and cheaply (courier, post?). Add accomadation costs and it's (...) (19 years ago, 9-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) Unfortuantly the venue prices in both Melbourne and Sydney are pretty expensive, and due to the fact the venue needs to be close to transport and accomadation, this only increases the price. The Melbourne uni site is a good $1000 dollars (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

Hi everyone I can understand everyone's concern about the costs of attending Brickvention. $50 (plus travel costs etc) is a lot for an untried product. This is not a new issue - every type of convention has this issue every year :) In the Science (...) (19 years ago, 9-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) I've done a few sums, and I reckon I can do the weekend for about $500, so you may want to shop around. If Kerry's figures are correct, it may even be cheaper. Even at $500, $50 for registration is a relatively minor expense. Even without (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) I reckon that'd be worth $50 on its own. ;-) Cheers Richie Dulin (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.events, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) My answer would be "As good as you want to make it!" ;) Please, if anyone has ideas for what would make this "good enough" for them to outweigh any travel etc costs, let us know! Currently planned are: Space display with moonbase; Train (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.events, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

Just to inject some facts into the discussion, Virgin Blue have flights for that weekend: $105 between Sydney and Melbourne $139 between Brisbane and Melbourne $95 between Adelaide and Melbourne $85 between Hobart and Melbourne $215/$240 between (...)   Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) I agree that $50 is quite cheap. In fact, compared to the total it will cost to attend (the +travel and +accomodation), $50 is very reasonable indeed. Venues are expensive, and if you don't live in Melbourne, travel and accomodation will be (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.events, FTX)

--SNIP-- (...) It is advice I usually take... except at 2am when I probably need it most. I do apologise to Peter Edwards. (...) Hi Peter, I agree my comment was rude and had it not been 2am for me when I wrote it I probably wouldn't have posted it but I will stand by the point because it was in response to something that was extremely rude.   Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) Tim I thought those comments were a wee bit harsh mate as I too thought the $50 rego was a little extreme. We (BLTG) had a disscussion this weekend while we were at a train show at Sandgate and we came up with the figures of about $1000 plus (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) Thanks for your comments Peter. We have no physical welcome mat planned, but unfortunately exhibition space in Melbourne does not come cheap. We have attempted to keep the costs to a minimum, and $50 is quite cheap for a 2 day convention. (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.events, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) You do realise that you actually have to pay for convention space don't you? Or did you think it was going to be held in someones backyard? Tim (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, FTX)

  Re: Announcing Brickvention 2006!

(...) Hmmm, $50.00 (+travel +accomodation), you are not exactly rolling out the welcome mat. Are you wanting some exhibits or just vendors? (19 years ago, 7-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.events, FTX)
