Sorry, I can see now that I was a bit unclear here... It wasn't an idea, but
a fear:) If Lego is going to let us play digitally with every brick they
have (and I'm actually not sure they are) you can be certain that they will
go to some lengths as to protect the bricks. You could argue that they're
allready protected legally, but to rely solely on that would be very
expensive. So why I think it might be a web app is because you have one
database to protect and maintain, let's not forget that IF they give us
access to all their bricks, there's some serious maintaining to do.
Why I fear they might not let us get use of all their bricks? Earlier this
evening I read about a fellow who had collected 3000 different _shapes_ of
bricks add to that the different colours, and add to the fact that this was
one fellow who had actually physically collected the bricks. We're talking
about a rather large collection that they'd have to be ready to manufacture.
And after reading the message over a few times, they actually doesn't
promise anything else than delivering the bricks to build what you created
with _their_ program.
But hey! I just might get surprised:)

If you had read my whole note, you would have seen that I'm not saying TLC shouldn't have a CAD program (I think they should), what I'm saying is that the data file should not be the input to the parts ordering, that should just be a parts (...)
