Overview
Model - the entire design being described by the building instructions.
Building steps - the sequence of steps where parts are added to assemble the
entire model.
Sub-model - portions of the model that are described as their own set of
building steps.
Building Instructions - step by step description of how to assemble a LEGO
model.
Details
Front Cover - The first page of building instructions usually contains a picture
of the completely assembled model. LPub creates an image for this, called
<ldr_name>.JPG or <ldr_name>.BMP using the Instruction Images mechanism.
Bill Of Materials - an inventory of all the parts used in the model, in a format
similar the the RIS set parts list in the back of the Constructopedia. LPub can
generate this automatically using the Instruction Images mechanism.
Back Cover - the last page of the building instructions.
Assembly pages - these pages contain the step by step building instructions.
Page number - most books display page numbers for each page.
Backdrop - LEGO often uses a backdrop image as the background for building
instructions.
Length indicators - LEGO sometimes provides inset pictures that show axles to
scale in their building instructions, on pages where longer axles are needed.
Step seperators - LEGO often uses horizontal and or vertical bars to seperate
multiple steps within a page.
Assembly step - describes parts added for a given step. Minimally this includes
the assembly from the previous step with parts added, and a step number. It can
also contain a list of the parts being added, as well as inserts showing how to
assemble sub assemblies and add them in the step, just like a single part. LPub
can generate step images that are a composite of these things using the Layout
mechanism.
Part List Image - a picture describing the parts added in a step. LPub
generates these automatically using the Instruction Images mechanism.
Assembly Image - a picture showing the partial assembly with the parts added in
this step. LPub generates these automatically using the Instruction Images
mechanism.
Step number - The step number associated with the current model or sub-model's
assembly. LPub can generate this automatically using the Layout mechanism.
In-lined submodels - Small sub-assemblies that are added in the step, complete
with image containing numbered steps showing how to assemble the model. LPub
can generate In-lined sub-model images using the Layout mechanism. LPub's
Layout mechanism supports the concept of nested In-lined sub-models, where
In-lined sub-models can themselves be described by In-lined sub-models. The
parts needed to build the inlined sub-model are reflected in the Part List Image
for that step. LPub supports pointers that lead from the In-lined sub-model to
the location where the sub-model is added in the step using the Layout
mechanism.
Sub-models - self contained models that are used a part of larger sub-models or
the whole model. Large sub-assemblies typically are described in building
instructions using format similar to that of whole assembly steps, where there
are multiple steps spanning multiple pages. Small sub-assemblies can be packed
into in-lined sub-model images showing all the numbered steps of assembling the
sub-model in a single image.

| Reposting not FTX'd -Orion There are many terminologies that would be nice to lock down and they releate to levels of hierarchy of the images (and text) that make up the instructions: Graphical Building Instructions Front Cover Completly assembled (...)
