In the process of getting my notes together I have noticed that the
term BI is to broad and needed to form additional terms to
cover/narrow down what I will be talking about.

Um, I cant tell the difference between the different types you defined,
nor do I see the need to narrow down the term. Where is the
confusion? Why is this needed?
|
I dont get basic building instructions, but I do get Building
Instructions vs. Building Instruction Images. LPub (when you dont use the
wonderful post-processing page layout features) outputs a series of images
that just represent the graphic for a step. Then, you can take that output
and arrange it in a layout program. Those would be Building Instruction
Images, the raw output that hasnt been formatted yet.
|
BBI came out in my mind becuase I wanted a narrow term for polished BII in a
layout. BBI and BII are both subsets of BIs. I chose BBI to get the
acroynms all with the letters B and I. BBI could also be called
Background Building Instructions. =)

I would suggest that trying to make acronyms for the same project all similar
(using B as you noted above) will actually lead to confusion. Quick
example... try reading your paragraph above out loud. I think youll find its
a mouthful. :)
But as I noted elsewhere in this thread, I would also suggest that extensive use
of acronyms (in this context) is probably not warrented. I think talking about
building instructions and step images would likely suffice. We already use
a term like sub-assembly as commonly as the word brick. And no one yet
(thankfully) has attempted to shorten sub-assembly down to AS.
|
BIs can be more than just want (we) the lego community use to show our stuff
on the web. While nobody has done it yet, they could have used video ortext
only instructions.
|
Do you mean animated versions of building instructions?
And how would text-only instructions work?
|
The need comes about with the new articles I am writing for the BI portal on
BI Theory, BIs for the web, etc. In my writing I have noticed that the term
BI is TOO BORAD for the article. Thus the BII and BBI. =)
|
Borad or not, I think the key is making things clear... not homogeneous.
Dont forget a spell checker for your articles. ;)
|
Anyone else got feedback?
|
I hope it doesnt sound like Im trying to rip apart your ideas, as thats not
my intention. Im just trying to suggest some alternative routes to explore,
before you commit yourself to certain decisions. If youre going to take the
time to think through these things logically (and I completely believe we
should) then why not make sure its 100% solid before continuing?
All the best,
Allan B.
