I started a poll with the basic question:
How long before the Lego company beats a shame-faced strategic retreat and
returns the old grays and browns permanently to production?
http://members.lugnet.com/polls/ballots/?n=173
So far, over half have answered Never.
If you believe that (and Im not saying that you guys are wrong) then why
all the whining? Im not going to call it voicing your opinion or
expressing your concern, its whining. If you dont believe Lego will
act on the complaints at any time, then there isnt a lot of point in
voicing complaint. It would seem to me to be best to either shup up and move
on, or continue to express your displeasure in the belief that at some point
Lego will get a clue.
Personally, I dont have a huge problem with the color changes beyond one
really important one: its incompatible with the stock of bricks I have.
One complaint, but it has huge repurcussions. I simply find it amazing that
The Powers That Be at Lego never even considered it.
It isnt the end of the world as some would make out, but it is something
that I believe is correctable.

Sometimes when things dont go our way, we like to yell as loud as we can in
the hopes that the gods may be listening....
Eh, Ive never been one to shake my fist at the injustice of it all...
waittaminit, I have, but I wouldnt get my knickers in a knot over something
this trivial.
I say if the marketing managers feel that thisll save TLC money, or maybe
generate some coin, then perhaps my favourite company will be around for a
longer period of time. In this day and age, with the dog eat dog world of
corporate cutthroats, I say to TLC, Do what it takes to keep your Co.
going!
I dont want to be 60 at some hobby show with my old LEGO collection on
display for the masses and have to say to the kids, You cant buy this stuff
new anymore like those Meccano hobbyists at the last show I attended.
TLC, all the power to you. Thus far, nothing you have done, in any way shape
or form, has shown me that you dont care about your product (well,
Galidor... ;) ). The people with the ranting and raving about something as
insignificant as a colour change dont realize how good they have it--they
can still buy new LEGO bricks, whatever the colour.
What kind of breakdown would these same people have if TLC were to suddenly
disappear?
Eh, its a hobby, or at least should be. If folks are that upset about the
colour change, then this isnt a hobby anymore--its an obsession. Step
back, put the brick separator down, and take a deep breath and maybe a
mini-vacation from the brick.
All this, of course, in my humble opinion...

General Comments/Rants
1. There is another side to the color doesnt match well with my
collection theory and that is that
a) I dont think Lego cares about AFOLs in general or their mounds of bricks to
start off with b) I think they thought that consumers would either enjoy the new
colors or at least not notice the difference.
2. Another point to make is that when Juniorization crept in...there was a lot
of wailing and this and that... but if you look at most sets in System, you
still see a lot of juniorization albeit as disguised as they can...and Lego
itself steadfastly denies that juniorization is still previlant in the company.
3. Legends are definitely going to suck in the new colors. SPACE is going to
suck in the new colors also.
4. It would be IDEAL if Lego put out new items (as in brand retail) in their
new colors, and put out exclusives/legends/MOCs, etc. in their old classic
colors. (though I doubt very much they would do something like that).
