That could go a long way to explaining your price differences.
Government supported monopolies always charge higher prices because
they can. Around here, the lower priced clones seem to get about
equal shelf space, which exerts a significant downward pressure on
the lego prices.
You also mentioned international vs local shipping. It's quite
possible that your local shipping unions add more to the price than
than the international shippers because of the cost of local cost
of living, or whatever.
